Offensive Potential

Not disagreeing about Taylor or Rex because obviously the QB's ball security and decision making, coupled with the health of the #1 RB, are always tantamount to a team's success. That being said, our OL and WRs will determine how this offense does because we're going to run the ball there's no question about that. The biggest key is that when we do throw the receivers make the catch.

Assuming that the throw is on time and on target . . .

There's only two things limiting this offense from reaching it's potential and becoming dominant; 1) our WRs hands and 2) our OLs focus. If our WRs can focus and catch the damn ball when it is thrown to them and if our OL can remember the snap count and minimize holding and other stupid mental errors there's no limit to what this offense will be able to accomplish.

He had a terrible throw against MSU, and quite a few against tOSU (besides the last couple of drives). He had a few fumbles against FSU, and didn't have a good game against Michigan. He still has some work to do, but I will honestly say he improved from 2010 to 2011 he just needs to keep working.

Were we watching the same quarterback? Interesting.

Martinez isn't as bad as some people make him sound. He's also not exactly lighting the world on fire. He's somewhere in between. I think Athlon put him at 3rd in the Big Ten. I think that's probably fair or maybe a bit too generous.

I agree. Some of our fans want to blame him for Hurrican Katrina. Taylor isn't perfect and he'll still make some mistakes this season-every QB does. And I admit that Taylor has room for improvement in terms of his drops, footwork, and mechanics. But it was really encouraging to know that when spring break came he went to a passing camp instead of partying like a normal college student would. I'm far more concerned about our WRs tendency to drop passes and our DLs patty-caking and playing slow and soft than I am about Taylor.

Meh. I think his mentality has improved . . . but that was more a necessity than a voluntary improvement.

I agree with that, hopefully Taylor can provide even half the passing attack Ganz gave us. If he does, we could be very dangerous on offense. I do think that our running game right now is well beoynd what it was in 2008, especially with Burkhead having some legit help.

Same here. Better than the 2009 offense wouldn't be saying much, but better than 2010 and 2011 would be pleasing because the offense was the strength of the team in 2011 and explosive for the first half of the season in 2010.

It's too bad you didn't see watch our games. Yeah, Ohio State wasn't a good "team" but their defense was. So was Penn State's. So was Michigan State's. Tmart was the "only" good thing we had going vs NW as our defense was absent, our wrs dropped passes everywhere (as usual) & our Oline was stuffed.

What you need to understand is that Tmart, Carnes or whoever we have at qb isn't going to magically change the play of our defense, Oline or wrs.
