Watching Messi win and accept the Golden Ball (best player of the tournament) is one of the saddest things I'll watch today.

Yeah, that was heartbreaking -- along with all the crushed Argentina fans they kept showing after Goetze's score. I wanted to see Germany perform as brilliantly as they did against Brazil in the semifinals, but with the game unfolding as evenly matched as it did today, by the end I was rooting for Messi to equalize and take this thing to penalties.

Good game, the best team in the tournament won. It's too bad Messi didn't get his World Cup here, but Argentina certainly had their chances and didn't take them. Including Messi. You can't ask for much more.

That's some good journalism there, thanks for linking it. It goes from something like "most historians attribute it to non-nefarious reasons" to "others allege more nefarious reasons" to "the government systemically tried to wipe out blacks in Argentina."
