Heisman Trophy Winner
I should have said 6 SEC for shock value chuckleshuffle
So you don't think 5, how come? :dunno
Currently ranked in top 12 -
Texas, Tenn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia
(And Texas A&M is tied for first place in SEC with Tenn)
Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana
(all 3 could get in with 11-1 records. Or if Indy beats OSU the Buckeyes might get in with 2 losses, but not higher than Oregon, Indy and.....
And what about 11-1 Penn State? That should be enough of a requirement to make the playoffs, per common sense. I should say 4 B1G teams have to make it.
Current SEC standings
Tenn 5-1
Tex A&M 5-1
Tex 4-1
Georgia 5-2
Ole Miss 4-2
Alabama 4-2
I just don't know who will play in CCG, but if a 2 loss team is in the CCG and loses, then they will be eliminated.
Tex 8-1 has Ark, UK, A&M - Could be 10-2; or 11-1 play in CCG
Tenn 8-1 has Georgia, UTEP, Vandy - Could be 10-2; or 11-1 play in CCG
Alabama 7-2 has Mercer, OU, Aub - Will be 10-2
Ole Miss 8-2 has FLA, Miss State - Will be 10-2
Georgia 7-2 has Tenn, UMass, GTech - Could be 10-2
Tex A&M 7-2 has NMSU, Aub, Tex - Could be 10-2 and play in SEC champ
Texas has 2 historical rival games (Arkansas & Texas A&M)
Tennessee plays at Georgia this week
Ole Miss has 2 losses - one in OT - by combined 6 points
Alabama has the Iron Bowl - Auburn rivalry
Georgia has elimination game against Tenn; If they win they will likely beat rivalry Georgia Tech.
Texas A&M would love nothing more than beating UT since coming over from the Big 12. NewMexico State and Auburn will not get in their way.
Remember, Tennessee and Texas A&M are 5-1 and in first place.
It will all sort itself out and should be fun (SEC). And I hope only 3 teams make the CFP but it probably will be 4 teams. Or 5 like I first thought.
As for the B1G - there is no way on earth than any committee or poll member can tell Indiana to their face - "You finished 11-1, you had a nice season, but you will not be accepted into the playoffs. Even though you did everything you were asked, it's still not enough. Because you are Indiana". And, it would be a bad look as well if PSU makes it with the same record as them with a loss to a mutual team. So.............. 4 B1G teams & 4 SEC teams (possibly 5 SEC)
I would assume tOSU will make it - even if they were to get an upset loss to Indiana and not make the CCG. And I don't see them losing to Oregon twice (because it's so hard to beat someone twice in the same year), but if they do lose to Oregon in the CCG - 2 losses and still in.
In ACC - SMU vs Miami in CCG - winner in playoffs
In Big 12 - BYU will have to go undefeated and win CCG. If they lose at any point, they will be out. And they will get the Indiana treatment I just mentioned. Unless Colorado (for example) beats undefeated BYU in CCG - then auto qualifier Big 12 winner is in. And then you are telling BYU - 12-1 in the Big 12 is not good enough, sorry.
Notre Dame has 3 games left - Virginia, Army, USC. One loss and they are out. I just don't think they will run the table. And if they do lose, then a window opens up for another team (like 2 Big 12 or 5 SEC)
Although I do like the idea of playoffs having 4 underdogs (name any of them), I am not thrilled with Boise State, Washington State or Army as a lone victim. Even SMU could be ACC champs at 12-1 and not have enough to win in the playoffs. But I am pulling for them to make a nice run for sure.
