Here goes.

He looks and sounds nervous. Quaver in his voice. He's cleared his throat about five times in the first minute.

Crazy, emotional few months. But productive.

 
Lots of hesitation, lots of umm's and uhhh's.

Kinda feel sorry for the guy. Like the sheep addressing the wolf pack.

Forehead is quite shiny. Sweating bullets.

 
Questions:

QB Battle? Who's got the edge?

Focus is on competitive nature. Four capable guys. Sounds like Miller and Brokemeier (whatever his name is) are the front-runners.

Could Brax step in like Pryor did as a Freshman?

Fickell thinks so. Excited to see how he can grow and put them in a position to win.

 
Here comes the questions about Tressel/the scandals:

How does he focus on football with all the stuff going on?

It all happened fast, Fickell had no time to sit and think and feel sorry for himself. The situation arose and he had to stand up. Just do what he does best which is compete. Exciting and challenging.

 
Any contact with Tressel?

No contact. Not a lot. Tress has been very supportive, wishes them the best, blah blah blah. He's talked to a lot of people, gotten a lot of advice. Best advice is be who you are. Do it your way.

 
What does Mike Vrabel bring to the staff?

He's a good fit. He fills the one thing they need, which is loyalty. Competitive, experience. There is a growing curve for him though.

 
Have you talked to Cooper or Bruce? (Former Buckeye coaches)

Yes - everyone has insight for him, and he's trying to soak it all in.

 
Anything from the administration telling you to avoid Tressel?

No. Just moving forward and focusing on what they have not what they don't have.

 
How are the players coping with this?

Foundation being laid is key. Not much contact with the players, just a week before summer break. They've come tight together. They're saying and doing the right things. Fickell tells them they see better than they hear, so show us come August.

Do the players feel they have anything to prove going into this season?

Every team feels that way. Our seniors know they'll be judged on this final season, so they're going to do everything they can do.

 
Is it difficult going into the season not knowing about your own future beyond this season?

Focus is only on what they can control. Nobody puts more pressure on him than he does. He's just excited about getting on the field.

 
How has the last few months affected recruiting?

Summer is always a unique time in recruiting anyway. Not a big backlash on recruiting so far. They still focus on history and tradition of OSU, not one coach or person or era. They'll still get top-notch recruits no matter what.

 
How is the Offensive Line, especially with a new QB?

It's a difficult situation. O Line is a key, and they understand they are thin. They have to focus on the young guys coming in, and we'll have to train them quickly.

They played softball with him. The Big XII press would have absolutely hounded him with questions about Tressel and Tattoogate. Amazing.
