Official HB Good Beer Thread

Produced by BrewDog -- the same people that brought you Tactical Nuclear Penguin -- Sunk Punk is an IPA made with lager yeasts, buckthorn berries, distilled sea salt, and rum. It's actually brewed nearly 60ft below the surface; that's it getting sunk up above, in a specially designed tank with everything from pressurized gas release valves to a Jolly Roger, just in case someone tries to steal the treasure within. They've got a pretty awesome video explaining the whole thing, and don't worry -- it's got subtitles if you don't speak Scots. Check it out
Interesting. I'm wondering how they got it to ferment in only 2 weeks with a lager yeast. Lagers typically take a minimum of 6 weeks and that's at fridge temp of 40-50F. Maybe the rum helps speed it up. *mental note-try adding hard liquor directly into next batch of homebrew*
Probably has more to do with the pressurized tank.

Adding liquor only boosts the ABV. Don't think it speeds thing up since the liquor has already gone through the fermentation process.

Tried this lastnight:

Some cool beer drinking stats.

"The Beer Institute put out its bi-annual list of the top beer-consuming states in the U.S. for 2012. North Dakota, New Hampshire, Montana, South Dakota, and Wisconsin made up the top five despite many being lightly populated states. North Dakota beer drinkers were putting them away with 45.8 gallons per capita consumption. This was more than twice the national average of 28.2 gallons per capita consumption."

Guess there is nothing better to do NoDak.

Best Fall Beers

The Bruery Autumn Maple

Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel

Great Lakes Oktoberfest

Southern Tier Pumking

Otter Creek Oktoberfest

North Coast Brewing Old Rasputin

Dogfish Head Punkin'

Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale

I haven't had any of these. I did buy a fall variety pack of Sam Adams. Some decent stuff in there. Nothing to get crazy about other than the Octoberfest

I also bough some Shock Top Pumpkin. Not much pumpkin taste. Decent. Wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again though.

That reminds me of an old bottle of beer my dad has in the basement. It was called "Nude Beer." When the bottle gets frosty, the girl has a bikini top on that you can wipe away

got a new belgium sampler that was out of sight. came with a coffee beer, loved it.

also got a boulevard sampler. had a west coast ipa that was pretty good, very hoppy. and a rye wheat that was pretty tasty as well.

thinking the new belgium makes some of my favorite beers, though. their pumpkick is also pretty good. never had 1554 or fat tire until recently, and i realized that i was really missing out. always have been a big fan of ranger.

Giddyup from New Belgium is awesome. My girlfriend drank all of them because she liked it so much and she doesn't really drink that much beer.

I had pumpkick at Chili's here in Fort Collins, it was pretty good. I kinda forgot about it though. Might have to try it again.

were you able to get giddyup on its own? i thoroughly enjoyed it.

pumpkick was pretty good and the first seasonal i saw that i wanted to try. it is not the best beer ever, but i enjoyed it because it is not overdone. just a good beer with a little extra flavor.

I haven't found Giddyup on its own. I wish I could because it's damn tasty.
