I think that there are too many teams as it stands right now. I think they shouldn't be worried about expanding. You could pair it down to 24 teams, increasing the level of competition, and I think strengthening the product.

Here's been my idea forever...

Get rid of the Panthers and Lighting (do we really need hockey in Fla, no), nix the Coyotes, Predators, Hurricanes, and Islanders. Take the players from those teams, put them in the draft pool, and allow the bottom 8 teams 4 draft picks to improve their squads.

Eastern Conf - Boston, Buffalo, Ottawa, Montreal, Rangers, Devils, Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington, Columbus, Detroit, Toronto

Western Conf - Winnipeg, Chicago, Minnesota, Colorado, Dallas, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, LA, SJ, Anaheim, St Louis
