There is a lot more evidence then the tin hat theory you are throwing out.

Bad teams get penalized more often. That is a fact.

We have been bad for years, are special teams have been a mess, we fumble,  we miss tackles, that screams poor coaching.

Last season, IIRC, was the first time in like 40+ games that NU got a holding call for them.......That's a problem

Challenge that OL Austin. Hat on Hat.

Way too much blaming of the officials. How long has it been since we’ve had a DL that has put enough stress on the OL to cause them to hold?

The penalty issue is lack of discipline. 

We just put two guys in the NFL. Three guys a year or two before that.
