Official now???

LJS is reporting that Garrison has been confirmed as a full-time assistant:

UPDATE: NU spokesman Keith Mann confirmed that Garrison has been promoted to full-time assistant, though Garrison's official title was unclear as of this writing.

I don't. I think the entire OL should get their marching orders from one guy, to be philosophically consistent. Garrison is supposed to be a technician, isn't he? And Barney, well, he doesn't exactly have that reputation. I don't want to see half our OL being pulled in different directions.
If you want to get really techinical about it, based on weight he'll only coach 37.99% - Barney can't infect the entire unit without a majority so I think we're ok here.

OT - Sirles (310 lbs)

OT - Jones (315 lbs)

OG - ARod (325 lbs)

OG - QVale (320 lbs)

OC - Caputo (275 lbs)
A bit off topic, but if we are trying to run an oregon type offense, wouldn't we need leaner lineman. ARod is about 20 pounds overweight for that kind of spread no huddle offense I thought we were looking at, along with Qvale.

Sounds like Garrison will get O line and TEs once they announce his promotion. They'll be in good hands.
This is what I was wondering. No talk of Garrison in the coaching changes. I would guess garrison would be lead on TEs and co-oline coach with "the final remnant that needs to go."
I would think that Garrison would work with C/OG as he played C, and Barney would get T, possibly TEs.

Maybe they make the TE more of a H-back, and let Brown coach them, too?
Your thinking is wrong then, at least according the the unnamed athletic department member I spoke to. Sounds like there is a good chance they might do their song and dance on this one yet today. . .but who knows what could happen.
Not that it would hurt my feelings, but what will happen to Barney? TE?

I think he gets to focus on the center three guys and improving his attitude.

Bo Pelini has said that he still has one more hire to get, he hasn't said who that is or what position. I think we can all assume its the TE coach. But it may very well be Special Teams and Defensive Line coach with the news about Papuchis

Beck has never coached QBs, Brown has never coached RBs, Fisher hasn't coached much of anything. If nothing else we'll be getting some new things out of them. I'm curious why Brown didn't take over WR/TE like prior, and Fisher RBs. Maybe Fisher was more comfortable with WRs?
isnt that what he did at KU?

Garrison is the last hire - if he has one more after that someone has to go.

I don't think it's going to be a full-time assistant, but a Graduate Assistant. Joe Ganz was floating around on here a few days ago, so maybe he'll be the Offensive GA, with Ross Watson continuing as the Defensive GA. So the staff shapes up like this:

HC: Bo Pelini

OC/QB: Tim Beck

DC/DT: Carl Pelini

RB: Ron Brown

WR: Rich Fisher

TE: Brown/Cotton/Garrison

AHC/OT: Barney Cotton

OG/OC: Jon Garrison

DE/RC: John Papuchis

LB/ST: Ross Els

DB: Corey Raymond

GA: Joe Ganz

GA: Ross Watson

Not a flashy staff, but I trust Bo, look at Pap and Ek, I think Bo knows coaching talent when he sees it, so I'll trust his judgment on this one.

The only thing this new staff is missing is more cowbell.

I think one of the many pluses of Brown moving to RB coach is that the blocking of the RBs should improve and they'll work to pick up the blitzes. He is a hard worker and that should translate to the position as well. I'm sure he will drill it into them to hold on to the ball which was a ? last season.
