*** Official World Cup 2010 Thread***

Street Novelist

All-American
I decided to start a separate thread for World Cup soccer. Because all the teams are required to give their 30 man provisional roster to FIFA by tomorrow, I decided not to list all of them in the European Soccer thread.

It's too bad that Charlie Davies couldn't make this team, also I hope that Onyewu doesn't start at centerback I've never been a fan of his defensive ability

Well, in typical Maradona style, he's probably pissed off many Argentines by leaving off Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and Fernando Gago.

Jesus we are in trouble if we have to resort to the likes of Beasley, Kljestan, Johnson, and Findlay. I would have rather gambled on a 75% ready Charlie Davies than any of those. Color me worried.

ESPN: WEMBLEY, England -- Germany captain Michael Ballack has injured his right ankle while playing for Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

The midfielder will undergo tests Sunday to determine whether he will be fit for Germany's World Cup opener on June 13 against Australia.

"It's not that good at the moment, but I have to wait until tomorrow for the scan, and then we will know more," Ballack said. "I went off and couldn't carry on, but it's not that bad."

Ballack went down clutching his ankle after a challenge from Portsmouth's Kevin-Prince Boateng. Ballack hobbled off in the 44th minute.

"It's not good in football when that happens, and nobody wants to see it," Ballack said. "He got away with a yellow and was lucky."

Chelsea went on to beat Portsmouth 1-0 when Didier Drogba scored his 37th goal of the season, curling in a free kick off a post in the 59th minute.

"We don't think it is a bad injury," Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said. "We hope he will be ready for the World Cup."

Ballack To Miss World Cup With Torn Ankle Ligaments

ESPN: FRANKFURT -- Germany captain Michael Ballack will miss the World Cup because of a right ankle injury, dealing the three-time champions a serious blow less than a month before the tournament.

The German soccer federation said Monday that the 33-year-old Chelsea midfielder had torn ligaments in his right ankle from a tackle during his club's 1-0 FA Cup final victory over Portsmouth on Saturday.

Ballack's ankle has been put in a cast and the federation said he won't be able to train for at least eight weeks.

"It's very disappointing, but I have to accept it," Ballack told German television, standing with crutches. "It's football and you have to live with it. ... I am angry, clearly."
