England blew opportunity after opportunity. I was literally laughing that a team loaded with that much talent could miss so many open shots. Wayne Rooney: What has happened to this man? He's been a mouse since the opening match. Zero goals for the lead striker.

Jermain Defoe's goal in the 23rd minute off a beautiful cross from James Millner proved to be the decider.

Donovan's goal 45 seconds into stoppage time guaranteed the USA's advancement into the group of 16, although they should have won 2-0 due to Dempsey's goal being incorrectly called offside in the 21st minute.

great strike from Ozil..Lahm also did a great job of getting back to block the shot on the goalline in the 26th minute, bailing the keeper out. Because Australia beat Serbia 2-1, Ghana will also advance due to goal differential. Ghana is the only African nation to make it out of their group.

Serbia had their chances in the first half. just couldn't finish...Even though Australia won, they will not advance due to them giving up 4 more goals than Ghana (Ghana and Serbia both had 4 points, so it came down to goal differential). A draw would have seen the Serbs advance.

But the referee missed what should have been handball by the Aussies in their own penalty box off a corner kick in the 90th minute. This should have been an automatic penalty kick for Serbia.

Until the last 20 minutes Italy looked lethargic and undeserving of even being there. Slovakia played with heart. You could see it on their faces. What a block by Martin Skrtel on his own goalline in the 66th minute to deny Italy the draw!

Italy fails to advance out of their group for the first time since 1974.
