*** Official World Cup 2010 Thread***

I've got Germany winning the rest of it. They have just looked dominate in just about every game. Not only that but they seem to play the full 90 minutes and click well together.

More On Paraguay/Spain Match

Pique pulled down Cardozo by the arm in the 57th minute off a corner kick, leading to a yellow card and a penalty kick (because it was in the penalty box). Even though Cardozo scored the winning pk against Japan, it was not to be this time as Casillas correctly guessed lower right corner.

Just 2 minutes later, Villa was taken down inside the penalty box by Alcaraz, which also led to a yellow card and a penalty kick. Xabi Alonso took the pk and slotted it into the lower right corner, but the referee disqualified it because a few Spanish players had breached the penalty box before Alonso took the shot. On the second try, Villar blocked the shot; but on the rebound he took out Cesc Fabregas, but the ref did not blow the whistle! That also should have been a yellow card and a pk for Fabregas!

But Paraguay would not throw in the towel! With just 2 minutes left in the match, Barrios charged down the right side and rifled one right at Casillas who fumbled the ball. The rebound bounced to Santa Cruz who was blocked by Casillas who had made a mad scramble to the ball! San Iker, they call him back in Madrid!

More On Netherlands/Uruguay Match

Uruguay clearly needed their striker Luis Suarez who was suspended following the intentional handball in their last match against Ghana. Nicolas Lodeiro also missed the match due to a foot injury he picked up against Ghana. Uruguay's captain Diego Lugano also was out due to a knock he picked up against Ghana. Don't forget defender Jorge Fucile who was suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Needless to say, Uruguay was not going into this match at full strength.

The Netherlands, on the hand, was only missing Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong. not exactly gamechangers

In the 4th minute, the Netherlands should have scored when Kuyt shot it over the crossbar from only 15 yards out off a deflection from Muslera. In the 13th minute the Netherlands missed another opportunity when Sneijder blasted his shot right into his teammate Van Persie, who was inexplicably standing right in front of him in the penalty box.

In the 18th minute the Netherlands finally scored when van Brockhorst scorched one off the right post from 30 yards out! In the 28th minute Caceres kicked Demy de Zeeuw in the face when he tried a bicycle kick which earned him a yellow card. Sneijder came in to confront Caceres and also earned himself a yellow.

Right when it looked like Uruguay was dead meat, Forlan fired a missile just outside the box passed the outstretched hands of Skekelenburg in the 41st minute. The keeper really should have blocked the shot.

Demy de Zeeuw was replaced by van der Vaart at halftime. In the 70th minute, Sneijder fired his shot at the near post, but was deflected by a Uruguay defender to the far post right by Muslera. Just 3 minutes later Robben headed one in off an amazing cross by Kuyt. In the 92nd minute, Maxi Pereira scored one off a free kick, catching the Dutch defense napping. But by then it was too late!

I don't understand the disallowed PK goal in Spain/Paraguay - can someone explain? Because I thought the rule was NO players are allowed to breach the penalty area before the ball is hit, and in the first PK that was also missed, PLENTY of players breached. That should have been rekicked too no?

Also I've been trying to find the Spanish announcer's call of Villa's goal a few games ago, their match before Paraguay....he flipped the HECK out! GOOOLLLL gooool GOLASO GOLASO GOLASO GOLASO VILLA GOLASO...

Cardozo's pk should have been retaken because Casillas came across his line before Cardozo kicked the ball.

Team News

Germany: Germany will have to play without the services of Thomas Mueller, who is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Spain: Raul Albiol is still injured and will not be able to play. Will del Bosque drop Torres from the starting lineup?

Spain Breezes By Germany 1-0; Advances To 1st World Cup Final

Puyol's header in the 73rd minute will allow Spain to play in their first World Cup final. Xavi swung a corner kick into the middle of the penalty box where Puyol was making a 10 yard dash. Puyol and Pique both jumped for the ball, colliding with one another. Puyol hit it with such force the German keeper didn't stand a chance. At the end of the day, it wasn't David Villa coming to the rescue, but defensive veteran Carles Puyol.
