Officiating Bias Against Frost?

The rule has always been written poorly. You can actually intentionally throw the ball into the ground and not be called for it, but sail a ball and can be called for it, and by definition of how the rule is written both could be correct.  It's never been a question of if the player was intentionally grounding a ball but rather how good the player is in skirting the rule.

The odd thing though...

There was NOT a defender hanging onto Martinez nor was he on the verge of being tackled.  There were two defenders there, but they were both 1-2 yards away.

And "weird" that a call like that somehow goes against Nebraska.

no, the odd thing was the flag was thrown well after the play when martinez was standing next to the ref. thought he was getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty thrown on him.

Regardless, we're in agreement (I think) that is was a truly odd call.

I mean, if there was a defender hanging onto AM...or he was on the verge of being tackled, okay fine, throw the flag.

But to be standing there with defenders 1+ yards away and not even close to tackling him, how is that flag thrown?????  Just bizarre.

yeah, we're in agreement. and the section i was sitting in most likely was too considering all the booing being directed at the refs.

 
pretty sure Moos and Frost popped off too much before the season started, about how good we were going to be........pissed off the other teams and the refs played their game.......we will always need to dominate the score to have a chance now, the refs want to stick it to Frost, every chance they get.

Better to be humble and keep your mouth shut! Forget about fair calls for sometime now.........

Then there's the stupid people who buy white cars, which has the lowest ticket rate, and speed like crazy and wonder why they have so many tickets.

By the way - this officiating crew called two holding penalties against Minny in this game.  That brought the above stat up to three holding penalties in 22 games.

By that calculation, you have to go all the way back to the Maryland game in 2016 to see the last holding penalty called against a Husker opponent.  That is beyond bad....

HOWEVER...

Nebraska has been a highly penalized team the last 10-15 years.  You have to go all the way back to the 06-07 season to find when Nebraska was in the top 50 in fewest penalties per game:

Stop and think about that.  21 games our opponents were NOT called for any holding.  And you're insisting there is no bias against Nebraska?  Not buying it.

The stat was a bit more narrowed down than "any holding call".  What it says was any holding call on a pass play that was accepted by us.  There were probably a few that happened on third down that were declined to make it fourth down and a punt situation.  Still since so many teams now throw on any down and not just third and long it was a very revealing stat.

If the QB is out of the pocket, both are allowed.  If the QB is in the pocket, neither is allowed.  So there isn’t a difference.

 
Some other things the networks could do if one team is getting too far ahead and causing fans to turn off the TV and miss the commercials.... they could cause a big jet stream of wind to blow at the offending team and then fire water balloons at random times to slow them down. That’s better any day than getting a walleyed ref to spot the ball in random places.
