Okie State pay for play?

Jason Whitlock absolutely destroyed Thayer Evans today

I encourage all of you to go google Thayer Evans, a hack journalist, huge Sooner fan, used to write about the Sooners, and has been known to commit tons of journalistic no-nos - making up information, writing with a huge bias (anti-Texas for example)

His Heisman ballot last year did not include Johnny Manziel. 2 years ago he wrote a nationally published article telling voters not to vote for Cam Newton.

This whole article strikes me in kind of an odd way. There's nothing about Okie State's program that makes me go "OH MY GOD DESTROY THEM." This kind of stuff happens at virtually every school. Ever seen the staff and tutors available to our football guys? There are some damn attractive women on there. Boosters do shady stuff all over the place. Players get wrongfully paid all over the place. You could pick a school out of a hat, investigate it, and odds are you'd find pretty much everything they found at Oklahoma State to at least some extent. So why Oklahoma State? Why now? What prompted this?

Not a fan of this article, its authors, and don't know what the motive is here.
My only argument against this is that how did Oklahoma St become what they are out of what they were? Seriously. Oregon? Well, we found they were doing some illegal things. It's common knowledge what goes on in the SEC. Auburn had one championship year. It's common sense as to how. Just look at some of these "fly by night ( as I like to call them)" programs that have absolutely zero tradition to go off of prior to 2000. But i agree with you on the point that there really isnt anything about Ok St the makes me want to see this happen.

Lastly, the connecting factor to this is Les Miles. A guy on ESPN radio made the perfect point today. Les was obvoiusly using Ok St as a stepping stone and most likely didnt care about repercussions to the program. He changed the culture from the previous coach (Bob Simmons?) in allowing boosters to have access to his players on almost a full basis where as the previous coach did not. I'm sorry, but Miles has always had "I'm a crooked-a$$ dork" written on his forhead. He left Ok St for the SEC. Go figure. His involvement alone makes it hard for my to refute anything.

And lastly (for real), Jason Whitlock is a worthless f'ing piece of sh#t. Opinion of course.
all of this tends to help explain why he left so abruptly. Just before he took the LSU job, he was preaching how much he loved the school, wasn't leaving, enjoyed being the coach at OSU then IIRC within days he was gone.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Now some money may or may not have gone to players and recruits illegally and whatnot, but Oregon became what they are because of billions (okay, hundreds of millions) of dollars from Nike.

Oklahoma State largely became what they are because of T. Boone Pickens' ridiculous oil fortune and megaconglomeration. THIS JUST IN: Money can buy success.

(You are kind of right about Whitlock, he is definitely a piece of sh#t. But Evans makes Whitlock look like Jeremy Schapp.

the most embarrassing part about all of this is that they still only have one big 12 championship in the last 30 years.

Today's story was on academic misconduct. THIRTEEN PLAYERS participated in academic misconduct from 2000-2011. I think Nick Bahe put it best. "ONLY 13 players participated in acdemic misconduct in 11 years? Oklahoma State should be given some kind of award!"

This story is a complete joke.

Don't care about the academics or money, just tell me about the Orange Pride and those sloots.

Funny part of that is, I have to hear it all the time down here. They have no clue on how to take success. Also, I still have to hear that if they were ranked #2 instead of #3 and gone to the National Championship two years ago, that they would have won easily.

T. Boone didn't exactly come out with a denial. More of a, "things have changed" response.

"There’s one word I have for the Sports Illustrated reporting on Oklahoma State University: Disappointing.

This series is not reflective of Oklahoma State University today. Many of their sensational allegations go back a decade ago.

There have been wholesale changes at the school in recent years in leadership and facilities. During that time, I have given more than $500 million to OSU, for athletics and academics. Have I gotten my money’s worth? You bet. We have a football program that has a commitment to principled sportsmanship. They understand the expectations we, as fans and supporters, have for the program. We have an incredible and growing fan base, and a loyal group of alums that believe in the character of our players, coaches and administrators.

But I do welcome this scrutiny. If people take the time, it’s an opportunity to better understand where Oklahoma State is today, not a decade ago. It’s a different university today. It’s a better university. If there are areas where we need to improve, we’ll do it.

Which leads me back to my disappointment with Sports Illustrated, and their failure to ask the most important question of all: What’s happening at OSU today?"

Almost sounds like an admission.

Like I said. SI is suspect anymore, and the author (not willing to call Evans a reporter) is even more so. The hype, and 5 day roll out of the story, and they may have to retract the whole thing. SI and Evans did not do the level of research and documentation a true investigative journalist like Charles Robinson does with his articles.

Carter also told SI that he and Bell were in the same class and got A's and then had the same instructor again for a class in 2004 but got F's..
.........

However, Bell wasn't at Oklahoma State in 2004. He withdrew from school after the 2003 fall semester, according to the OSU transcript he provided to ESPN.

"I withdrew from school after the [Jan. 2, 2004] Cotton Bowl," Bell said. "I was never enrolled in 2004 and never attended classes in 2004.
