Option Pitch

I wish Wats would recognize that this is not a play for Zac Lee. He just can't run it effectively and it needs to be scrapped from the playbook.

Maybe someday with Green, but when Lee is in, that play should be OUT.

We actually ran the option with some real nice success today.

But I agree: we can do without the option. Even in '99 we were having difficulty not fumbling. Helu is not handling these pitches well.

Yeah, we did alright with it today. I don't think we should be running it, but give credit where it's due. We had some success with it today (nothing huge, though).

I agree, it worked alright today; not exactly well. I think they like it so much because Zac or Cody or whatever QB we put in has the ability to cut upfield at any point on the way down the line o scrimmage... as evidenced by Zac when he attempted to cut towards the goal line on that nearly sickening first TD.

I will say this. For a play that needs to come out of the playbook BADLY, see "Zone Read"!!! We never gain good yardage on this play, and QB keepers especially with Zac are just plain stupid. Also, running out of the shotgun is just plain stupid. People do not respect it as a passing formation anymore, and it totally loses it's effectiveness. When we had 2nd and 2 at some point in the game and decided to run that #$@% zone read, we got stuffed and I wanted to kick Wats in the head. Run it out of the I if we're that close ON SECOND DOWN and get rid of the ZR garbage!

Problem with our otion game is that it looks like we are trying to run a 1st and 2nd level option on the same play. You can't leave the EMOL, OLB and the safety all come free. You have to block someone.

Lee does not know how to draw defenders to him and allow the pitch man to get open. It looks like he is afraid of contact and only runs laterally therefore the defense doesn't think he will keep it. Also, he runs way too far toward the sideline before the pitch so the RB has no room to maneuver after he catches the ball...

Without the option, we don't have the option pass set up perfectly, which led to a FG (and almost a Paul TD).

Also the receivers aren't sealing the corners and the TE's aren't clamping down the backside of the play.

You want to trade QB's and O coordinators???

Congrats on your win today. I love watching the jackets pound the rock!!!!

I've been longing for us to run that play just like the old days since we run so many option plays. It worked out perfectly.

just remember no option..... no option pass. nevermind... someone beat me to it.
