Funny ..

The Duck's AD must like their chances against the Beavers if Riley stays in Corvallis?

It'll never happen. They're just playing "hard ball."

USC isn't going to take Riley, anyway. They're going to go looking for someone with as much splash as Carroll had when he left.

I'm guessing they try to hire Osborne away from Nebraska.

Jeff Fisher of the Titans has been rumored to be a candidate. Not sure if he is a big splash, but he is a successful pro coach.

I think that Riley is an OSU grad and his dad might have coached there or his dad might have coached in the area high schools. He left once and hated it, he actually seems to want to be at OSU. Now, of course we have all seen that before.

My guess, is that they will create a contract for five years, starting now. At the end of each season a year will automatically be added on, so that it will always be a 5 year contract. In theory, that would be your lifetime deal assuming the extension process is something that Riley decides on.

Maybe he is one of those guys/coaches that really is happy where he is at, I would think that Corvallis is a lot like Lincoln when it comes to living expenses so I am sure he makes a great living.

Update 1/11

Riley agrees to three-year extension with Oregon StateJan. 11, 2010

CBSSports.com wire reports

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State football coach Mike Riley agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2019.

The extension, announced by the university late Sunday, effectively quashes rumors that Riley might be a candidate for the Southern California job. Pete Carroll left the Trojans to coach the Seattle Seahawks.

At the American Football Coaches Association convention in Orlando, Fla., Riley told the Associated Press on Monday he was never contacted by USC and had no intentions of leaving Corvallis.

"I'm very pleased to say I'm going to be at Oregon State for a long time," he said. "That's about as long as I'm going to coach probably. I wanted to get it out there that I was going to stay, regardless of whatever happened [at USC]. I know that there were a ton of rumors out there and I thought that it was best to just get it all behind me."

This contract also has a clause in it that extends the contract a year every year OSU goes to a bowl. So as long as Riley keeps OSU in a bowl game every year, he indeed has a lifetime contract.
