Oregon & Washington to the B1G - Clemson & Florida State Next?

Yeah, AFAICT that Swaim guy is the main source for this stuff. He's apparently been spouting the same basic claim for over a year.

There's just one problem: Big 12 payouts are lower than the ACC's. The Big 12 is still the only power conference without a TV network. Florida State and Clemson going to the Big 12 makes no sense.

I definitely hear your point. My understanding is that ESPN would raise payouts to the Big12 if this came to pass because they would essentially consolidate TV rights. Really messy.

From a college football fan standpoint, I’d like it only if the ACC is truly on borrowed time anyway. I really don’t want just 2 power conferences and this would help to legitimize the Big12 as a 3rd power conference. Then I assume the Pac2 leftovers and the ACC leftovers would merge for a 4th lesser conference.

Of course, he'd never say anything different but....
OK, when he says, "we have to get this conference right...."  Does he mean that there are bad issues that need corrected?  Or, does he mean moving forward, they need to make sure they do everything the right way....ie...more expansion?

Yeah, I thought that was kind of odd wording as well.  I haven't heard/seen the context to know if that helps understand what he meant.

I kind of took it as, "We recently expanded and need to focus on integrating the teams we've already invited" but his choice of words is kind of unclear.

I don't know why people even care what the commissioner or anyone from the conference says about expansion. It means nothing. They can change their mind tomorrow, as we've seen multiple times.

I'm kinda bemused at how it's looking like the Big 12 might be the one that survives as the #3 conference. I mean not long ago, out of the Pac, B12, and ACC, you would've said that the Big 12 was the least likely to survive.

BTW, there was an 'interesting' post on the Georgia 247 board the other day from a guy to claimed to have some connections. In addition to talk about the collapse of the ACC, there was one tidbit that should raise some eyebrows...

  • Here's the shocker - the SEC has had backchannel conversations with both Penn State and Nebraska about joining the conference. Now, this in all likelyhood will not happen, but apparnetly both programs are not exactly happy in the Big 10. Nebraska doesn't surprise me in the slightest (especially with OU and TX coming over) but PSU, if true, absolutely does

Now if there's any truth at all to this, you have to ask exactly who is or was not happy with the Big Ten. If there really were any talks like this, there's a strong chance that it was Trev that wasn't happy and started talking to the SEC. Which might make sense, considering that he apparently wasn't happy about something, and left for an SEC school...

Honestly, I can easily see how Nebraska fits more into the $EC than B1G but unless everything changes and NCAA is dropped for a commissioner with a North/South type conference of the nations top 64 teams (4, 8 team divisions in each conference which equates to 8 auto bids to the playoffs with 2 wild cards from each conference to get to 12 team playoff) there's very little possibility of a Nebraska move. That said, Nebraska, I think anyway, would be a better fit in the $EC.
