I think it's just a poorly written article. The writer is kind of going against himself when he is demanding a "Rooney Rule" and then using Nebraska as a negative example when they were meeting the standards of the "Rooney Rule." He is mistakenly painting a picture that the OSU and NU hiring situations were identical and the only difference was black and white. Without any back story behind either job opening, it leaves the reader to assume Gill had no chance because of his color. I personally had Gill as my first choice and Pelini as a close second. I felt Gill had the calm temperament that reminds me of TO and when I thought of Pelini, I couldn't get the Snyder incident out of my head. But the pressure of the worst defensive year in the team's history made passing on the defensive specialist Pelini, almost impossible.
