Osborne: No story today

Wow. I'm actually shocked that T.O. revealed so much in a few minutes of interviews today.

I suspect Nebraska's not going anywhere, and neither is Tejas, and that this will be firmed up by Friday.

Osborne isn't one to mince words, and he said things like "we like where we are", "we aren't looking to leave", and there is a "very good chance" that the Big 12 stays intact. Plus the fact that he even concedes that a decision during these meetings is possible. You don't throw out those sorts of reassurances if you are even considering going elsewhere.

My guess is that Tom, Harvey, board members, and maybe even Bo got together and figured out that the Big 10 could present some huge risks to our program, and unless the Big 12 falls completely apart, it's still our best option by a long shot:

1. It actually makes geographic sense for our fans as opposed to the Big 10.

2. Significant recruiting unknowns.

3. Team travel time and expense.

4. Yes, the Big 10 could have a significant financial payoff, but this isn't a business; it's a university. And Nebraska's university at that.

Finally, it would be very un-Nebraska-like to say one thing and do something completely the opposite in 6 months. Tejas? Who knows.

Nebraska's staying in the Big 12.
I disagree. What I got from it is that T.O. is conceding whatever decisions to Perlman and will support it.

So I'm going with IF the Big Ten extends an invite, Perlman will be the one to accept or reject the offer. I'd be willing to bet that Perlman would accept a Big Ten offer for reasons already mentioned in various other threads. ACADEMICS.
the money that is in the cic makes the big 10 tv network look like my kids piggy bank.

the sharing of research, research grants, and prestige that goes along with being a member of the

big 10 and cic is what is going to drive the decision.

Exactamundo!

RedNeck, bro, I think it's plain that you really hate the idea of going to the Big 10.... Me, I don't give a rat's patoot one way or the other. I am positive of one thing. There will be BIG RED FOOTBALL on Saturday, and that team will become my rivalry of the week.

I think you are hearing what you want to hear. And reading what you want to read. I can't see TO's comments as leaning or telling in either directions. I hope you realize it's just an opinion and if we stay in the Big 12 fine, and you'll be happy. Just hear what is being said about the money, not only athletically but academically. And the jump seems likely, IF we get an offer. I'm and old man. I remember not being to hip on the idea of screwin' with the old Big 8.

First off every college is a business. That's why you are required to take Physical education classes and bull like that.

Second I think it's wise of TO to not let it sound like Nebraska is begging and pleading with the Big10 like missouri is.

Hey I'm old too so join the club. I live in northern KS, and we like to take out on Friday afternoon or even early Saturday a.m. to see Big Red play - wherever in the conference that might be. It's rare we miss a game and theres a whole lot out there just like me. If we go to the Big 10, the only road game we'll mess with is Iowa. That's about it. I just don't see how this fits Nebraska and our fans. I'm sure there are fans in Pennsylvania and all that but that's not our home territory, never was, and never will be.

and all of this for money and supposedly better academics. after all these years of supporting our team on the road and in lincoln and this is the thanks we get. chasing dollars how neat that is.

i'll still be shocked and real disappointed if TO and Perlman go that direction. There's a lot of people against this thing.

and everybody with a dog in this hunt is hearing what they want to hear so enough with that.

Like who? I think that most popular fan polls show that about 75% of NU fans want this move. But in reality, that does not matter. To state the obvious, the CIC is a much bigger factor in this than sports. Period. If you choose to ignore it, then you can keep your head in the sand.

That being said, from what I have heard, it seems less promising now that we will jump to the Big 10 then it did a few weeks ago. We can only hope.

I clicked the wrong thread and posted this. supposed to be here.. anyway...

The things going in at Dear old NU should make some realize this Big 10 thing is no fluke. The new sports arena has been voted in. The new research facilities at the old fairgrounds. Now the stadium expansion.. Already??? Coincidence? I dont think so. This is all steps to the Big 10... Making comparable athletic and academic facilities.. I say it has been in the works longer than we've known....
