Osborne to focus on charity

I realize that T.O. has other things that he wants to do with his life and can't be the gate keeper at the NU athletic department forever, but I got to say it inspires twinges when I think of him fading too far into the background.

The new guy seems like he has it together.

And T.O. gives him the "vote of confidence"

But until we get going here, have our first trauma, and get through it without major upheavel, I will continue to wonder.

Anybody with me?

I'm not too worried about it. Osborne's time was up. He did what he set out to do, and what he was best at. He peaked fan interest, played the political battle it takes to build an arena and expand a stadium, and got things on solid ground. Everything is set up just fine for someone to come in and move the program forward in way Osborne probably couldn't.

And while he says he never meddled, I won't believe for a second that his presence didn't influence decisions Pelini made. I want to see what Pelini can do running this program now that he's not sitting beneath Osborne's shadow.

I doubt that Osborne not being apparent in the program is going to hamper us. He was definitely the catalyst for getting the program back to where it needed to be, not quite where we as fans want it to be, but where it needed to be just to not completely fall off the face of the landscape.

The concern that that will happen without him again is legitimate. But the big difference is, I don't think Eichorst is going to fire Pelini for winning 9 games. So we're not going to be in the position that Pederson put us in.

When is this supposed to happen? I thought he was going to be done on January 1st. I've read he's still putting in crazy hours in the athletic offices.

He's AD emeritus until July 1 I think it is. Basically helping with the transition in a glorified way.

I for one would love to see him finally retire and enjoy life with his wife and grand kids. Lets face it, the man is not getting any younger.
