Assessing the talent: Large human. Plays 8-man football at a small school with limited competition. But his frame has got to be attractive to D-1 schools. This equals “Potential”

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 30% This isn’t you typical Nebraska kid. He has never been to a Husker game and doesn’t even watch them all that much. He is looking at three schools right now, but the Huskers are the only one to offer him. Because he plays at a small school he will get offers but it won’t be till much later in the process till teams see who didn’t commit to them. He is the only other Nebraskan, besides Zach Potter, to have a scholarship offered.

LINCOLN - Another Nebraska football home game passed Saturday, and another week went by without a visit from Orion Matthies.
The state's No. 2-rated prospect has yet to attend an NU game this season. But Glen Snodgrass, his coach at Overton High School, said his star player has not forgotten the Huskers.

Apparently, they haven't forgotten him either, though it would appear easier to do after a top prospect like offensive tackle Chris Scott paid his own way from Georgia to watch in person as the Huskers played Baylor Saturday.

Snodgrass said Matthies plans to make it to Lincoln for the Oct. 30 Nebraska-Missouri game.

The Eagles are 6-1 and have secured a spot in the Eight Man-1 playoffs. Snodgrass said the 6-foot-7, 310-pound Matthies remains a one-man wrecking crew, having accumulated more than 20 tackles for losses and dominating on the offensive line.

"Nebraska has the full ride on the table," Snodgrass said. "We've been hearing a lot more from Kansas, Iowa and Kansas State. He's going to wait until after the season to decide."

The Huskers want Matthies to wait an extra semester, until January 2006, to go on football scholarship.

Iowa Offensive Line Coach Reese Morgan recently told Snodgrass that the Hawkeyes consider Matthies as talented as any guard prospect in the nation. The other schools are recruiting him to play tackle.
