Our D-Line

What a difference a game makes. A week ago Crick was a sure-fire 1st rounder on the HuskerBoard.
Which just goes to show that it's easier to talk football than to know football. I'll be the first to admit I'm no expert.
Yea, definitely. Even for the experts, it's gotta be hard to project - there's so much movement, so much competition. Terrific players can go undrafted and average ones can be drafted pretty high. Lots of error here no matter how much you 'know.'

I know very little. I just go by my pessimism. Which seems to be right more often than not, just by law of averages, and when it's wrong, I'm happy anyways. :)

Careful judging sack totals Posted by: Steve Sipple on October 21, 2010 at 7:58AM CST

Nebraska's starting defensive ends, sophomore Cameron Meredith and senior Pierre Allen (below), have only two sacks combined through six games.

Be careful judging that number, though. The Huskers' scheme dictates that the ends must concern themselves with much more than rushing the passer, said defensive line coach John Papuchis.

"Our defensive ends are asked to take care of draws, they're asked to take care of screens," Papuchis said. "Very rarely do we ever just turn them loose and let them rush the quarterback.

"Part of the reason we can cover the way we cover (in the secondary) is because there's a high priority of our defensive line to keep quarterbacks in the pocket. You can't have it both ways. I know people want to see gaudier statistics from the front. And we understand sacks are a measurement of success.

"But at the same time, if we're going to cover the way we cover, the defensive line has to play their role in being disciplined in the rush lanes. And that means sometimes sacrificing your own personal statistics."
