Five-Star Recruit
This is from rojo on another web site:
[i've been out of town for ten days or so. But on returning I've done a little bit of research. FWIW... I'll pass it along. ]
_ _ _
This year we have an O-Line that can’t deliver a running game and can’t keep pressure off of our Quarterback.
But still…..
…Has everyone noticed the improvement in our passing game?
Looking at Big 12 games only---eight last year and seven so far this year….
I. The goal: 60+% completion-rate.
Norvell has consistently stressed that 60%+ figure as the minimum standard for our offense.
--Last year: Dailey---47% completion rate in his eight Big 12 games (Last in the Big 12).
--This year: Taylor---59% completion rate in seven Big 12 games (Current ranking: 5th in the Big 12).
.
II. Interception-rate: (Big 12 games)
--Last year: Dailey---1 Interception every 15 passes. (Joe ended up leading the nation in this dubious category with 1 interception every 16 passes for the season.)
--This year: Taylor---1 Interception every 38 passes. (Current ranking: #6 in the Big 12.)
.
III. Pass Efficiency Rating: (Big 12 games)
--Last year: Dailey---102. (Last in the Big 12)
--This year: Taylor: 123 (Presently 5th in the Big 12)
Pass Efficiency Rating: (11/14/05)
1. Young, Vince, Jr. UT 175
2. Meyer, Bret, So. ISU 143
3. Hodges, Cody, Sr. TT 138
4. Klatt, Joel, Sr. CU 137
5. Taylor, Zac, Jr. NU 123
6. Bell, Shawn, Jr. BU 119
7. Bomar, Rhett, Fr. OU 109
8. Evridge, Allan, Fr KSU 107
9. McNeal, Reggie, Sr. TAM 107
10. Swanson, Jason, Sr. KU 106
11. Smith, Brad, Sr. MU 98
12. Pena, Al, So. OSU 91
.IV. Use of Receivers:
A) 2004 Receivers with 20+ catches (11 games).
--Pilkington: 27
--Herian: 24
--Ross: 21
B) 2005 Receivers with 20+ catches (10 games)
--Swift: 38
--Nunn: 35
--Ross: 31
--Mulkey: 23
--Hardy: 21
--[Note: We've had to function with little or no Tight End portion of our offense this year. Phillips/Sievers have had a combined average of 1 catch/game in our Big 12 competition this year....]
.
The Bottom Line:
We’re well short of where we want to be with our offense. But the passing game portion? It's made substantial progress. We need to be aware of that.
