Couldn’t Perlman have let Osborne help pick his successor? Or at least be part of the process? It seemed a courteous thing to do, for a man who had done so much, including ride in when Perlman needed a save in 2007. Perlman didn’t need Osborne’s approval, but it would have been the right thing to do.

hmmmm, Osborne had two picks at Head Football coach. The College Football Hall of Fame is not clearing out room for Frank Solich or Pelini. Why would he get to pick his successor? Wasn't Frank Solich enough? As far as coming to the rescue in 2007? Tom was at home probably bored out of his mind. Tom also had just lost the primary for Governor to Dave Heineman.............Dave Heineman. Heineman does the impossible....more of a weasel than Steve Pederson.Osborne was a great coach.

In Regards to Husker Football, Harvey Perlman Needs to "Shut Up & Go Away"

It shouldn't be measured by football... unless he continues to focus on it. And if that's the case, let's remember that he's the guy who gave Steve Pederson a five year contract extension in late July 2007, only to fire him less than three months later. How much did that cost the University?

Or that Perlman was the face of the BCS, fighting hard to defend college football against the evils of a college football playoff.

No, Harvey Perlman should be judged for what he accomplished for the entire campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Football should hardly factor into that - and because of that, Perlman should just keep his comments regarding football to himself. There's a lot of good things to be said about the rest of the campus. Focus on that.

Because when Perlman talks football, he comes off looking bad.

Osborne was a legendary coach, and he picked two really good football coaches in Solich and Pelini. People just don't seem to get how damn difficult it is to be an elite coach, as if someone can just will their way to it. No, he didn't pick a Nick Saban followed by an Urban Meyer, but neither did 99.9% of other people either.

Perlman seems like kind of a chummy snake, but at the same time probably gets way more vitriol than he deserves because he didn't devote all of his time and energy to the football program realizing there were 50 other things that are also in need of due attention.

I don't really take issue with Harvey not devoting his time and energy to the football program. I take issue with his well documented meddling.

I've always given Harvey credit for being a smart man. But these comments about Pelini were just stupid. Awful. He should know better, and it's a shame that he's put UNL and the program in a bad light like this.

Agreed. It comes off as petty and does nothing but re-open old wounds. But he, at least he gets his ego stroked one last time...

Based on the long list of documented missteps by Perlman, he's clearly not a leader and I put the lion's share of the problems between him and pelini squarely on Perlman's trout like shoulders.

Eh, IDK. Pelini sure seems to have a problem with being told what to do. Both guys were pretty damn stubborn, and let their pride get in the way of the betterment of the program.

Actually he devoted WAY TOO much time to football. He had his grubby little fingers all over it when they shouldn't have been.
