OWH: The Case For - And Against - Tim Miles

Reasons to believe, baby:

1. Nebraska’s rotation is stocked with young players.

2. The Huskers were 3-1 in Big Ten play when Ed Morrow’s injured foot knocked him out of the lineup.

3. Nebraska has played one of the three toughest schedules in the country, including six non-conference foes ranked in the top 60 of KenPom’s ratings.

4. Miles, inheriting a weak roster, took Nebraska to the freaking NCAA tournament in his second year.

5. Interest and effort are strong, both on the floor and in the seats.

Why it’s hard to believe:

1. Since Joe Cipriano took over in 1963-64, only one coach has produced three consecutive losing seasons. That was Barry Collier and it came his first three years on the job.

2. For all of NU’s inspired efforts against good teams, Miles loses too many games to bad teams.

3. Yes, Miles is playing young guys, but he’s in this position because he recruited so poorly his first few years.

4. The old excuse for Nebraska was the Devaney Center. Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Hendricks complex were supposed to make NU competitive.

5. Nebraska isn’t the only young team in the Big Ten. This is a point often overlooked by Miles’ supporters.

Under Miles we are a team of contradictions which makes it really hard to be on either side. I do think we are improving and Miles should have another season. These close games are like crazy pills...

Totally agree. I really think SS is, for some reason, very underrated.

The young argument works if you had previous years of success and have a year of rebuild. Nebraska under Miles hasn't had much success but that year he took NU to the tournament. This team is young, and he has been here plenty of years to see a recruiting class through so this young team is on his shoulders.

I agree...the thing is, if you are recruiting "well" like many say Miles is...then those young guys SHOULD be playing.

And basketball is one of those sports were one great player can make the team great, and you can get those great players as Freshman. Although I am not a fan of the one and done, look at Kentucky. If you can get just one of those players on your team you have a great chance of being very good.

I'll probably just wait until the end of the season to see how I feel. But I kind of lean towards giving Miles one more year to show us what he can do. The big ten is a competitive conference so winning isn't going to come easy. Pressures on.
