Parenting question

It appears you have instilled a core value system that shows they know right from wrong. Then it's their decision whether or not to go ahead with the prank or not. It could also be labeled as the GUILT vs. REWARD system.

I only have a 1-yr old boy, but I would be proud to raise him in a way that he would at least be open and honest and know right from wrong in difficult situations. Always good to hear about the great parents out there.

 
You tell her no, these pranks usually end up not being pranks even though the kids mean it to be. I had some great students a few years back that put Saran Wrap on my jeep, I was totally fine with it, they were great kids, the played ball for me. But, they also put yellow mustard on the car, well, the acid in the mustard destroyed my paint and I had to have it sand blasted out. Cost the family's about 150 dollars or something like that.

I was not mad, I was not even upset but they almost got into HUGE trouble

Hey TCD, did you get the promotion? Gt teacher if I remember.

Sorry to hijack. My opinion is to advise her no. This is where line between parent/child gets blurry. If this were truly an innocent prank I doubt if she'd ask and this sounds too me as if she is asking for forgiveness in advance.

 
It's funny that you posted this scenario. Two years ago my son informed us of almost an identical situation; wondering if he should participate in a senior year prank. Difference being, his was at the end of the year and he wasn't so much asking permission as he was curious how we thought they might react. I told him basically the same thing, it seems relatively harmless but nowadays school admins can easily have over the top knee jerk reactions, so be prepared for whatever punishment might come out of it. They did their thing and nobody got in trouble. I think much of it had to do with it was a very good group of kids pulling the prank. If it had been some more notorious troublemakers, somebody might have got in trouble. It never hurts to have a good reputation with the powers that be.

Quick story- when I was in 9th grade I finally had enough of this one kid who was always trying to start something with me so I blasted him right in the face in the hallway and was on top of him , round-housing his face, when a teacher pulled me off. He was all bloody and looked like crap. All he did to me was the initial shove in the throat. I got a stern talking to- he got suspended. It pays to be a "good" kid.

 
Haha. Actually it was kinda like that. He had sort of bullied me through elementary and the first couple years of junior high. Then I hit a growth spurt and snapped one day.

 
I don't have an iron in the fire, but I think it says great things about you as a parent that she would call you to ask you this.

 
I think it's great your daughter came to you about it. Personally, I really have no problems with senior pranks as long as no one is hurt.

In 2010, my son graduated from high school. A bunch of the students pulled off what they thought was the ultimate prank. On their facebook page, they wrote:

The Prank was to fill the forum with water and goldfish. Under the water we wrote Seniors 2010. On the library window was written Class of 2010. And finally on a big poster was written "162 FISH YOULL NEVER FORGET! THE CLASS OF 2010 IS THE sh#t!!!

Many in the town thought it was hilarious. It's a small town so many of the residents graduated from the school. The school did not allow the students involved to walk across the stage and seriously contemplated criminal charges. Parents and regular citizens were mad the school 1) did not allow them to walk and 2) threatened criminal charges. It was big news in OKC for a couple weeks

It sounds weird, but a lot of the kids that I knew that participated in any senior pranks didnt get to walk at graduation.
