Pelini opens up at Tuesday presser

Husker head coach Bo Pelini was about as open as we've seen him at Tuesday's press conference. We'll have a lot more in a story by Brian Rosenthal, but among the things he said:

"I don't have all the answers. What I've always figured around the way, just like anybody else, you're going to do some good things, you're going to make some mistakes along the way. But at every turn, you have to learn from your mistakes and you have to evaluate what you're doing. ... But at all times, you have to stay the course, you have to stay within your philosophy, you got to stay within your beliefs and I've been able to do that. You can't let outside influences, you can't let other people, you can't let criticism, you can't let anything stray you from that.

"I'm a pretty blunt guy. I'm pretty black-and-white and I've always been able to sift through all the things that are being said, not being said, the criticisms, and look at, 'OK, this is where we are, this is where we need to go, this is the best way to get there.' And no matter what, stay the course."

I don't have all the answers.

What I've always figured

Around the way

Just like anybody else

You're going to do some good things

You're going to make some mistakes

Along the way

But at every turn

You have to learn from your mistakes

And you have to evaluate what you're doing

But at all times

You have to stay the course

You have to stay within your philosophy

You got to stay within your beliefs

And I've been able to do that.

You can't let outside influences

You can't let other people

You can't let criticism

You can't let anything

Stray you from that.

Anyone else see this quote as poetic? lol

Stay the Course by Bo Pelini

*does that finger snap thing they do at those poetry coffee houses*

I think that way of thinking got BC fired...staying the course and all... :sarcasm

Bo has to do what he believe is right, even if it does fail for a while. We brought him in here because we thought he had the best vision of where this team needs to be headed. We can't just give up on that vision yet, it is just getting under way. We knew the problems wouldn't be fixed overnight...and they won't.

:boxosoap

I drank the kool aid, wanted to believe we had a shot of getting things turned around overnight. Not going to happen, obviously. Bo has not gotten a chance to bring the players in that he believes fits the system he wants to build. Until he does, I think everyone has to cut him slack. Unfortunately, I think fan's patience with losing is coming to a head, they gave BC 4 years, I think they have to back off and give Bo at least 3 years. Hopefully by then we see progress. If there is progress, I think Bo buys the time he needs to bring it around.

One other thing that will play into all of this rebuilding - Parity. None of the big schools will find it easy to win like they used to, on a consistent basis. The days of being undefeated going to a bowl game won't happen for 99% of the teams anymore. We may have one or two undefeated teams each season, maybe even none. Parity has changed the way things work in college football.
