PELINI

Four-Star Recruit
I saw Bo Pelinis name mentioned in a post and some people were talking about him so i thought i would start a thread and give my 2 cents.

I do not know much about Bo, but what i do know and remember from the bowl game I dont see how Solich was the successor. May be it was the history Frank had with the team. The feeling I had when that bowl game ended was amazing. An interum head coach, that pulled out a win. It was like the feeling i had when i got my first car. You could tell the team believed in Bo and had his respect. Respect...the one thing Solich NEVER got. Bo was intense on the sidelines, I had a gut feeling he was the best man for the job. Now he is at LSU and for a period of time earier this season his LSU defense was the only team in the nation that did not have a TD scored on them. For what its worth I wish he would have been given the opportunity and I am ashamed that we let him go the way we did.

PS- whats all this talk about Bo for recently anyways?

I agree, I would have liked to see him get a shot at HC, too bad Pederson wanted a big-name hire. I've heard his name mentioned regarding the Mich St job though.

I could care less about him to be honest with you. The way he acted when he left and how he has been talking about us here lately I don't give him a second thought.............

I haven't heard what he has been saying - any quotes or links?

Thanks
No I don't have any of those links someone else on here might though........I know he's been saying bad things about us to kids he is recruiting to try and sway them, but I'm sure that goes on at a lot of places, but it's still bad recruiting and that doesn't make it right.........

I've said before and I'll say it again.

My recollection is that one or two of the guys we were recruiting during Pelini's one year at Oklahoma told members of the press that they were turned off by Penlini's negative statements toward Nebraska. The link to the articles are here on the board somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding them. Still, if you do a search on Pelini and are willing to read through all the posts, you'll find it.

I know for a fact Dillard is one. Perhaps Roark as well?

I think you're right - when I get some time, I'll do a search and see if I can pull them up.

I find the loyalty to Pelini puzzling. In my opinion he was here as a stepping stone to another job.(HC) Granted he was smart enough to put Demorrio in positions to make plays which helped make him(Pelini) look better but he also got his backside handed to him 3 times that season. If I'm not mistaken all 3 were by teams that just lined up and ran right at us. It seems he is given a pass for those games though. I also think Marvin Sanders had a lot to do with the improvement of the Secondary that year and he doesn't get enough credit for that. It seems like it all goes to Pelini. I lost some respect for Pelini after his baby fit against KSU. That was completely out of line and totally not needed. Maybe it is all part of his growing process but he has been in coaching long enough to know better. Also his bad mouthing the program to recruits doesn't sit well with me either. The way he handled himself after being let go also showed that he had some growing up to do. Maybe he has changed but I doubt it. As far as I'm concerned I could care less whatever happens to Pelini during his coaching career. Nobody talks about any other former coaches from that staff or any other staff that still are in coaching they all just love Bo. I don't get it.

That's all I got to say about that.

Mariucci no longer in running

CMU's Kelly, and LSU and Florida assistants, emerge as MSU coach hopefuls.

[snip] ... MSU has interviewed this week, Pelini.

Under Pelini, LSU is No. 3 nationally in scoring defense (10 points), No. 1 in total defense, No. 6 in rush defense and No. 2 in pass efficiency defense.

"His players give effort unlike anybody else," said Marvin Sanders, a co-defensive coordinator at North Carolina, who worked with Pelini at Nebraska. "He has an aura that makes guys want to play for him."

Pelini, 39, previously was defensive coordinator at Nebraska and Oklahoma. He served as Nebraska's interim coach after Frank Solich was fired in 2003.

Pelini's Cornhuskers defeated Michigan State, 17-3, in the 2003 Alamo Bowl, holding the Spartans more than 200 yards below their season average while getting five sacks and three interceptions against quarterback Jeff Smoker.

Pelini, a Youngstown, Ohio, native, also has nine years NFL coaching experience as an assistant with the 49ers, Patriots and Packers. As a defensive back at Ohio State from 1987-90, he was named academic-All Big Ten three times.

Pelini also is a candidate at Iowa State, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
