Penalty Improvements

Penalties and penalty yards per game are an interesting statistic, but need to be lined up with penalties that cost the defense a stop on a scoring drive and penalties that cost the offense a first down, big play, or points.

They're likely going down just due to the team adjusting to the illegal formation calls the refs were cracking down on at the beginning of the year. I think in the BYU game they called each team several times for not having enough people on the line.

Agreed.

I think penalties are an overrated concern. Looking at lists, there's not a lot of correlation, let alone causation, between low penalties and championship winnings.

I hope we continue to improve. I worry because MR's teams have always been penalty prone.
They have been right around where NU was under Pelini. A few years worse & a few years were better.
