Penn State Game Preview

I'm sure UCLA had a stop EJ first strategy, but UCLA is a bad team.

If Emmett has a big game against a Penn State defense aligned to stop him, he will emerge as a truly special back and first team All-American.

I think PSU will likely hold Emmett to very modest numbers. Emmett will still be a special back, but they will dare our true freshman quarterback to beat them. I still think it's a long shot, but if Lateef comes out of this a winner......hold onto your hats.
 
PSU is not elite at the current time, but they have elite players. One year removed from the CFP and pre-season #2. We beat PSU Sat nite, in Happy Valley, on a prime time night game and stun the college football world. They try to contain EJ, but TJ does his thing. Another tailored game plan for the O. Butler sells out on stopping the run. It's still early, but I feel good about Sat. Double digit dogs and no respect.

Hope you're right. Other than CU last year, we've blown so many opportunities to show the nation we're ready for prime time. USC this year. Illinois last year. Losses that kill momentum and keep national perception about the program as not ready or significantly relevant.

Here is yet another chance. It's even trickier as PSU has one B1G win. They are better than their record. And our history with coming off a bye week. My best hope is Lateef brings a lot different than Raiola including not a ton of tape.
 
They've given up > 100 yards rushing to Nico I from UCLA and Gronowski from Iowa I believe. Their defensive line is supposed to have elite talent but hasn't shown well this season. The kid who was the understudy to Abdul Carter was supposed to take over and he hasn't met expectations, save for punt blocks (which are three this year).

Their defensive coordinator is going to blitz @ > 50%, especially on 3rd downs.

The freshman kid who has replaced Allar has struggled with accuracy and picks. He hasn't been allowed to uncork it much.

The BLUF for me: if we see the PSU that played Indiana- NU will lose by > 2 scores. If we see the team that played against Iowa or UCLA, NU has an excellent shot @ winning this game.

Penn State, Senior night, last home game, tough place to play. Still playing for a bowl berth. Huskers like 90th in the nation in run defense. Penn State RB is a beast. Stop Allen we might win the game. The Penn State pass rush and secondary won’t give Lateef much. Sorry I tend to agree with the Vegas line.
 
If Penn State will lose against Huskers -- then eliminate bowl
If Penn State will win -- still a chance. Next PSU game, November 29th, PSU @ Rutgers.

James Franklin coached 11 1/2 years at Penn State.

3 1/2 years he had a losing conference record. Another year he finished at .500 (4-4). That's 4 1/2 years of bad teams.

Bowl Games he went 4-5.
Playoff Games he went 2-1 (Beat Boise State - go tell the mayor)

He basically had 7 good to great years, 4 awful years, and was mid in post-season games. Never won a B1G title.

It's not like he turned a program around. Penn State had 9 straight winning seasons when he was hired.

He did win a B1G title. You of all people I wouldn't expect to crap on Boise State! I am only telling the mayor if it's one of those towns where a dog is mayor.
