Groton, MA -- Police in Groton are looking for a different kind of penny pincher.
More than 100 thousand pennies are missing from Groton-Durnstable Middle School. Students have been trying to collect one million pennies to better understand the magnitude of the Holocaust. Selectmen Chairman Peter Cunningham says kids noticed more than half of the pennies collected were missing. Cunningham says the thief must have taken them a few at a time, because 100 thousand pennies weigh about 550-pounds. 14 year old Danya Degan told the Sun newspaper of Lowell that it breaks her heart that people would steal from children trying to remember those who died in the Holocaust. But, she says "we won't quit."
