Never heard of him before yesterday but Phil Steele was on 1620 being interviewed about the College Football Preview magazine he puts out. While talking about Nebraska he said he rates Nebraska as having the 7th best defense in the nation. They should be favored in all but the USC game and could easily go undefeated in the Big 12. He said Nebraska is his darkhorse to win the national championship. :blink: oh yeah.. :thumbs

phil steele is pretty accurate in his predictions. id like to think this year he will be as consistent as he has been the past +5 years.

 
If things fall into place, I'm seeing two to three losses. That to me would be real progress. I don't want to get my expectations up too high. But if his prediction comes true, I'll take it!

 
I believe he is right on the money with the defense so long as our rush defense is kicked up a few notches.

if Stew Bradley comes back healthy, look for our run defense to be more potent. he was instrumental in the run defense before his injury.

cant grade Octavien since he only played 1 quarter..

 
I think we are just that right now...a darkhorse for national champion. If the stars align correctly, it could happen, but I am not going to expect it or be disappointed with a 10-3 team that is competitive in every game.

 
I read every preview mag I could get my hands on last year. Read them all at Barnes & Nobles, but only paid for 2 of them. In hindsight, Phil Steele's was probably the most accurate prediction, though I was a little put off by all the gambling / betting references and ads in his mag.

Thanks for the info on this year's preview. Guess I'll have to actually break down and buy his mag this year! :blink:

I would settle for a big 12 title game. But hey, who knows???

 
Big 12 title is definately where I expect us to be by the end of this year!!! Anything less is a disappointment and a step backwards IMO I know we didn't make it last year and another year like last year would be fine but we have been moving forward the last 2 years and I expect the same this year!!! :thumbs

 
I would like to believe that NU's chances for a Big 12 title are very good, but everything depends on not having any key injuries. If everyone stays healthy then the chances skyrocket, but a couple of key injuries then who knows

I hope there are no major injuries. It can all change in a matter of seconds. If for some unfortunate reason someone is injured seriously the backup will be ready to play. If NU is injury free, there is no reason they should not be in the Big XII title game.

It is interesting to see us being picked as a contender again. However, I am not sold on it just yet. I mean yes if the big "if's" are won and the team gels and injuries are at a minimum then yes all things are possible. "If" we beat USC and Texas and win the Big 12 Championship that means yes we are a contender. But those are huge "if's" at this point and I would be very happy just contending for the Big 12 Championship this year. Beating either USC or Texas would be exceptional but it is really too early to tell.

cn: I respect Steele's predictions and deep inside I hope he is right this season but I will be happy with Big 12 North Champs and contending for Big 12 Championship

 
Agreed anything bigger and better than the Big 12 Title i.e. BCS Bowl, Nat. Champ. would be icing on the cake and would be much welcomed but we all have to try and stay grounded here and just look at the Big 12 Champ. as reality and the Nat. Champ. as a (right now) dream right now!!!! But, I would love to be wrong and come January be rooting the Huskers in the National Champ. :worship
