I think this is a good post. The problem is it's incredibly assumptive DR is isolating himself purely for attention. High-level athletes often step away from the group to focus or follow sideline protocols, and those moments of “solo time” don’t automatically mean he’s trying to hog the spotlight. I constantly see him surrounded by teammates both on and off the field, so whatever you're seeing... I don't see it.
Likewise, chalking up every bit of intensity or confidence to arrogance could be missing the bigger picture... especially considering the examples of him actively supporting teammates.
Given that caveman’s counterpoint directly addresses Dylan Raiola’s behavior, just highlighting a positive example rather than a negative one, this is generally considered a relevant counterexample... not a whataboutism.
I mean, you did say before you posted it that you've posted it before and you expected negative reactions. It's their right to contradict you as much as it is your right topost and continue responding.
I respect that you don’t love his style, but treating him like a self-centered tool might be skipping over the bigger picture. The things you see as showy or arrogant could be part of how he plays, or how he motivates himself. Maybe it’s not your style, but there's more than one way to be a leader and play at a high level, and a lot of people don’t think it’s nearly as big a deal when they see him also do genuinely team-focused stuff.
I was at the game and saw him on the sidelines a lot. The thing I remember thinking- He’s a big kid…his Jersey sure is clean.I saw Nelson in a huddle once.
Yup.Raiola is one of those players that we’d probably dislike if he played at Iowa or an opposing team, and that’s ok.
I think both of you guys have good posts! To me, it comes back to each individual’s perspective and how each feels about a player. Both takes are correct, in your own view. I am in the middle, and I am not a DR apologist. I was calling for HH to get 15+ snaps a game during the season… but I see both views. He came here to change the culture. Typically, a culture changer is the face of the franchise/program. He must feel that he needs to put himself out there. If you listen to interviews, he is all about the team/program… rarely about him…. An example of perspective is that during the 25 years of being a HC, not 1 time did I lead our team out of the tunnel and onto the field. I always followed them. My view was/is that the kids are the ones who deserved to be first, bc without them, I don’t have a team…. Other coaches view it as as the HC, you are the leader and need to “lead” them into battle. Just different perspectives… no right/wrongI think this is a good post.
i waited until nearly the end of the season before I started posting this. I watched and looked for patterns and consistency. I was able to predict how he would react at the end of the game not because I’m Nostradamus, but because this is what he’s shown. The isolation I’ve witnessed didn’t appear as decompression, but more photo ops you’d see from an influencer.
It seems to me that he is trying so hard to put on an act. Create what he thinks he supposed to be. Obviously this is total speculation. Something to consider about the mini Mahomes thing. PM is a winner and he’s likable.
This team is better with him. There is absolutely no question about it. I want him to do well. But I’ll keep posting my opinions.
Is it true that Nebraska switched to an artificial surface in the 70s after the Iowa cheerleaders overgrazed the field?I learned that I'm looking forward to having real grass in Memorial Stadium. That's how football is supposed to be played.
PS....yes, our playing surface will be better.
Yes, that is still a concern. But, we have committed to a hot wire fence around their cheer leaders during the game.Is it true that Nebraska switched to an artificial surface in the 70s after the Iowa cheerleaders overgrazed the field?
And that only leaves the other issue, the mooing and oinking.Yes, that is still a concern. But, we have committed to a hot wire fence around their cheer leaders during the game.
That’s where the crowd noise is important so it doesn’t come over the tv audio. And that only leaves the other issue, the mooing and oinking.
Is that how they expect to get fake udders?Problem is they have started grazing on the artifical turf as well.
And that only leaves the other issue, the mooing and oinking.
