call it luck if you will, but ill call it years of government training, continuing education, his love for the profession (he runs a flight safety consultation business and has a glider license) and sheer bravery and balls on the pilots part.

this is an amazing feat, something that in the flying community was considered impossible. the only part luck played in this was the pilot rotation and having this dedicated professional behind the stick when sh*t hit the fan.

I think another thing that help him land safely was that it was a river. The water is much smoother in the Hudson than in the ocean. It probably would of ended differently in the ocean with the waves making for a rough landing and less control of the plane.
