Lots of guys wanted Brook to start.  It was divided mostly on racial lines though the receivers preferred Brook over Tommie as well.

I think some had confidence in Brook sure but even Brook had already proven it on the field that he could be relied on.  Definitely not the case with POB...

While Turman started, he didn’t finish the game against K-State as he was only good for handing off to LP. Berringer came in late in the 2nd quarter and played most of the 2nd half in relief of Turman. Osborne probably wanted to rest Berringer, coming off his collapsed lung, but TO really didn’t have a choice but to play him after Turman’s ineffectiveness.

EDIT:  Osborne’s plan also could have been to start Turman, and get as much out of him as possible, knowing that Berringer couldn’t take the beating of a full game due to his collapsed lung. Nothing against Turman, but while he did start against K-State, he wasn’t exactly the reason NU won the game. If he wasn’t there, NU probably could have used Mike Minter at QB and done just as well.

@Edison's Enemy, I literally have no idea how the myth that POB was "fast" keeps getting mentioned and stated as fact.

Huskers QB Coach Verduzco in an interview flat out said that they only kept the QBs with speed and athleticism--which did not include Pat O'Brien.  Now I grant you "speed" is relative.  For example, I'm certain POB could beat me in a 40 yard dash race.  However, compared to the rest of the QBs he was slower.  That's why he skipped out of practice and that's why he requested a transfer.  He was falling to 4th or 5th on the depth chart and knew he'd never see playing time unless the Huskers were up by 60.

This myth that POB is fast enough to play in Frosty's offense needs to die.

People wanted to say that POB was fast and was plenty mobile when posters (including me) were criticizing Riley for recruiting “statue QB’s”. Yes, POB is way faster and mobile than me and you, but he’s probably in the bottom half of speed, agility, and mobility of college QB’s. I understand that Frost runs a completely different offense than Riley, but that also goes into why posters (including me) criticized Riley and his offense. Many fans just wanted NU to succeed, so they were willing to support Riley and his crappy offensive style, even if it meant making up myths that POB looked fast and mobile in his high school film. POB looked “fast” compared to slower, smaller high school kids, not elite college football players, and POB did most of his running straight ahead. He wasn’t going to fit in Frost’s offense, so I don’t know why people expected that he would.  It’s not surprising that POB was pretty much 5th on the depth chart (including Vedral). 

 
So who is our 3rd string qb right now?Our depth concerns me.  Esp since our front runner is so small.

Not slow =/= fast.

If you want to say he isn’t quick, I’d have no arguments against that.

Just like every argument with my wife, our difference of opinion is based on semantics.

Not sure what Gebbia has to do with POB. My comments were related to POB. Gebbia does seem to have a little better ability to run the ball and QB Frost’s system, but he still has nothing to do with POB.
