political discussions

If I disagree with you or your policies it is because:

(1) you are a socialist

(2) you are a fascist

(3) you are a communist

(4) you are the second coming of Hitler

(5) you are the second coming of Stalin.

Is this what political discourse in this country has become? Why do people throw around erroneous and inflammatory labels rather than actually discussing the merits of an issue?

I think I need to stay out of the BS forum. :bang
I love referring to Obamie as a facist, a socialist and/or a nazi; seeing some lefty frothing at the mouth with impotent rage because I dared to skewer "The Chosen One" is my daily little slice of Heaven.

Seriously though, the thing is that the vast majority of the liberal left spent the previous eight years constantly...

1. Saying how Bush "stole" the 2000 election.

2. Hating everything about him.

3. Comparing him Hitler at every turn.

4. Constantly insulting his intelligence.

5. Routinely saying, "He's not my President."

6. Refusing to work together in a bipartisan way.

...and now that their guy is in office we're all supposed to unite and work together?

:bs:

Turnabout = fairplay.
Turnabout = you sounding just as ignorant as they did. :bang

Nothing quite like making fun of someone for wrecking their car while you are driving your's into a wall, eh?
You might want to look up...because the point went about a mile over your head.

This line, from the story that socalhusker posted, really represents my true feelings towards pretty much all politicans in Washington:

In reality, the destruction of our republic that has occurred over the past century has been completely bipartisan.
Uh huh. . . you complain about the left demonizing Bush, then apply similar inflammatory labels to Obama . . . and then tell me I don't "get it" because you are above it all.

How convenient.

Where did I claim to be "above it all?"

I simply believe that the liberals who spent the past eight years decrying Bush deserve to get it back in return.

You repeatedly attack one party/president while complaining about the attacks on the other party/president and then you say that you don't like either party. It doesn't exactly add up.

Good luck with the impeachment process. Personally I'd be more worried having Biden in the White House.

1. I'm not complaining about lefties doing what they did the past eight years-that's politics.

What gets my ire up is their blatant hypocrisy on the issue. They can call Bush, or any other Republican for that matter, a nazi and it's all good. But when the tables are turned and someone refers to Obama as a nazi...

2mryuk2.jpg

...well then suddenly that becomes "offensive" or "out of line."

2. I need to clarify and maybe pie chart would help:

The blue represents my disdain for Democrats and the red illustrates my contempt for the Republicans.

4voj6c.jpg

So I hear you asking why all the disdain and contempt? Because neither party actually gives a sh#t about America and doing what's right for the good of the country. Both parties use, abuse and bilk the system, meaning our tax dollars, for their own personal gain. Members of Congress often leave Washington, even after brief stints of "public service," as millionaires.

I'm pissed at both parties but for different reasons:

* I'm furious with Republicans because they always seem to sell out their core beliefs: lower taxes, less government and fiscal responsibility as soon as they get into office.

* I hate the Democrats because they are always trying to legislate through the court system and the fact that most of them are either socialist or communist and hate America.

This country is f'ing going broke, hell we are broke and what do our "elected" leaders do? Do they lead and take steps to fix the problems? No, they simply increase spending-by either printing or borrowing more money, then they produce more legislation that f's stuff up even more.

And to cap off this mountain of pooh...there are too many people in this country who look to the government for a hand-out. There are too many people in this country who think that they're owed something. Nobody is owed a damn thing.

Right now, we need leaders in Washington D.C. who will stand up and tell senior citizens, welfare recipients and anyone else who receives hand-outs that the ATM is out of funds. But that'll never happen because too many politicians are nothing more than sycophants who continue to stay the failed course of ever increasing government expansion.

Does that clear it up for you?

:rant

Hey Jen, are you available say nov 2012-2016

Libertarian Canidate Recruitment Committe.

HuskerJen, you make some valid points regarding spending, but you are pointing your finger in entirely the wrong direction. If you want someone to blame, blame the everyday voter who keeps sending these people back to office. (I think the quote "Democracy is a device that ensures that we will be governed no better than we deserve" is applicable.") Blame the media for turning elections into sporting events where people pick a candidate and root for them like they are the home team, regardless of what that politician's policies are. Blame the everyday person for demanding those handouts . . . for god's sake, of course politicians are going to give handouts for as long as their constituents demand them. Blame the shift of the US society, because at it's base Washington reflects the whims and wishes of those who put them into power. Blame the voters who align with a party and refuse to accept that any policy supported by that party is fallible. Blame voters who are too lazy to check voting records. Blame those who are too lazy to vote.

But then again, I suppose it is easier to point fingers at someone all the way across the country than it is to actually think critically about why they are doing the things they are doing. (keep in mind though that that finger pointing is one of the biggest obstacles to progress of any sort.)

Do you have a realistic alternative to our current system? If not, it might be wise to try to influence policies where you can rather than just saying the system is irrevocably broken.

As WC said: "Democracy is the very worst form of government . . . except all of the others that have been tried."

There's absolutely no need to move to an "alternative system."

What we need to do is rediscover the U.S. Constitution and force our leaders to start governing by the principles laid out by our Founding Fathers.

Furthermore, we need people in Washington D.C. who will have the backbone to cut the massive entitlement programs currently in place: Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, welfare programs, etc.

And I whole-heartedly agree with your point about politicians pandering to the voters in their district or state and that's where my frustration and anger resides. A politician, during a campaign, stands up and advocates cutting entitlement programs by even 10% he, or she, would more than likely lose the election.

The people who vote, on both sides of the isle, know at their very core that the path of spending our government is on is utterly unsustainable. Everybody knows that we have to cut spending. Everybody knows that our economic future, nay very survival, is at stake. The problem is that people are fine and dandy with cutting spending until it affects their pockets/entitlement program(s).

No way...I have way too many skeletons in my closet.

Plus my sexual orientation, being an out of the closet lesbian, precludes me from being a viable candidate for public office at the national level.

That just goes to show that it's the voters, not the politicians, who are the ultimate problem. If politicians is elected on a platform of maintaining entitlement programs and they do so, the right hammers them for supporting those programs. If a politician is elected on a platform of maintaining entitlement programs and they turn around and vote down those same programs, the left hammers them for breaking campaign promises and not working for their constituents. (And as you pointed out, they probably won't get elected if they say that they are against those programs prior to the election.) Quite the dilemma.

That's why I have such respect for politicians that WILL say what needs to be said. I can't remember which official it was, but I believe a Nebraska representative voted against certain farm subsidies and ethanol subsidies. That's ballsy. (I also believe he was not re-elected.)

I wouldn't have guessed that! Good for you. I suppose that partly explains your disdain for both parties...what with many Democrats not being fiscally conservative and with many Republicans being so willing to restrain personal liberties.

There I fixed your statement to more accurately reflect reality.

And believe me, being gay: anti-liberal, anti-obama and anti-social welfare/entitlement makes me a virtual pariah among other members of the gay community. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
