Portal QBs

Circling back to this, one thing I didn't know is that apparently Longval (junior) participated in Senior Day activities, so he's likely not coming back either.

So that leaves just Lateef and Soukup in the QBs room. We'd need to bring in four guys to get back to our previous number. So yeah, probably good that we're casting a wide net and looking at just about every halfway decent QB in the portal.
I agree with the wide cast bet, but if Rhule wants a mobile QB (he's not saying dual threat", I think we look for that. IMO, it just opens up your play book a little more. Dylan was a statue and OL didn't help. A mobile QB can get some positive yards. 2-3 designed runs per game and then scrambles when plays break down.

RB room looks really thin on experience as well. Acknowledging hard to get guys touches with AA RB. Ives with the most at 119 with zero carries against P4 teams. I think our returning "top" guys are all true Freshman or RS freshman with Ives a Soph. TJ is 3rd leading rusher.

So would everyone be happy with the UNLV qb or James Madison qb as the starter next season? I know tons of husker fans don't want Chiles bc of his inconsistency at Michigan State. If we get a couple of qb's within the transfer portal and they do bad on the field does it fall on the player or the qb coach Glenn Thomas? I don't know what kind of difference he has made bc I don't think he even helped DR at all while he was playing.
I was going to say this on another post, but with the "lack of development" to the eyeball test, is it possible that Raiola really didn't listen to Thomas? I mean dude is making north of $3 million and was and the crown jewel of Rhule's recruiting. I can see a guy with a strong family and Mahomes' QB coach possibly ignoring advice of the staff and not being held accountable.

DISCLAIMER: The above is simply speculation and my opinion. Although I have wondered for 2 years what exactly Thomas does/did. So this is as much an opinion on Thomas as Raiola. But if, Raiola didn't listen, it explains, lack of improvement in coaching.

But if Raiola tried to listen and Thomas sucks get him off the staff imo. I can't think of one good qb that Thomas has put into the league who is a starter and a named qb.

100%. Again, biased, as I haven't seen much from his as QB coach or Co-OC (unsure if he is still Co-OC).
I believe he was a buddy hire and that's one thing I can't stand bc his credentials and others on staff haven't shown they are great developers or even great coaches. But we at Nebraska love giving everyone a chance to shine even if they don't deserve it.

You beat me to it...just saw this list as well. Any idea of Nebraska is targeting any of these guys?

If we are looking for more mobile QBs...

Leavitt: 443 rushing yards in 2024, 306 this year (7 games)
Mestemaker: 89 rushing yards this year
Brown: 1,008
Hoover: 4
Sorsby: 580 (96 against us)
Lagway: 136
Becht: 116

Manske barely played (Nebraska native TE Ben Brahmer had more passing yards for Iowa State than Manske this year). But we did recruit Manske in high school.
Minchey threw 26 passes in mop-up duty. Although he did run for 84 yards on 7 carries.

I'd try to go after the Old Dominion qb Colton Joseph or the James Madison qb Alonza Barrett both are mobile qb's.

Shut it down. We've found our man:
