Considering his situation, he could have been in the mix for a lot of position. He had been shuffled to guard and center but I wouldn't have counted him out if depth became an issue.Smith was not in the mix for LT, Nick Ash has been added back to the 105 before Smith's injury which may provide a little more depth. This will be the good news of the fantastic line coming in next year, is that we can afford to not redshirt some of this years freshmen on the line if needed for depth.This really does stink, but at least it should open up the competition for both the left tackle spot and the #2 center position. We have a lot of young guys who have a big chance to step up.
