Pre-Season NFL Talk

KansasHusker

All-Conference
Well pre-season football is coming around again and it is a good chance to watch some of the young guys fight for their spots. I figured why not start a thread for all pre-season talk to go in.

There are 5 pre-season games tonight. I'll be looking for those Huskers as always so here is who to look for.

Denver at Detroit - T.J. Hollowell will be linebacking for the Broncos tonight as Detriot has 3 Huskers in Schlesinger, Raiola, and D. Bullocks. It will be fun to see what Danny B has to bring to the table for the Lions this season.

NY Jets at Tampa Bay - The Jets just drafted Titus Adams. They also have Husker Trevor Johnson on their roster. Tampa Bay has former Husker greats in Fonoti and Barrett RUUUUUUUUUUD.

NY Giants at Baltimore - The Giants don't have any Huskers on their roster, so screw them! Baltimore sports 3 Huskers in Benard Thomas, Sam Koch, and Cory Ross. Koch is fighting for the starting punter job and Cory is just trying to make the roster. He will likely get some carries and maybe some opportunities at returning the ball tonight. I hope they all do well.

New England at Atlanta - Hochstein, Warfield, and Le Kevin Smith are the Patriots. I hope Smith impresses and makes a name for himself early in his career. Warfield needs to find himself still, it seems like. Atlanta has Demorrio Willaims. This guy as we all know is pretty much, Mr. Everything. He can do it all. For some reason though, he has been unseated as a starter by Michael Boley. Doesn't make any sense to me because he has been there starting for a year or so now and this guy just come in and take the job? They need to trade Williams for the best of him. He is a starter that got jipped out of the pro bowl last season and they want to bench him? Pisses me off...I talked to some Falcon fans about the situation and they don't appreciate him at all it seems like. If you can read this Demorrio, GET OUT OF ATLANTA YOU DESERVE BETTER!

Chicago at San Francisco - The bears have Willie Amos? When did this happen...comes to a total shock to me. The other one, of course, is Mike Brown. San Fran has no Huskers.

Well that does it. Yes, I was really bored and don't know if this is useful to anyone, but it's here if you need it to keep track of games tonight with Huskers. I am most excited to see Ross with the Ravens. I don't think I missed any Huskers, but I'll run a double check.

as long as there is a vick under center, atlanta is a sinking ship.
Try telling that to ATL fans. It makes me mad when they say that Vick is the fastest man or the greatest athlete in the game. We all know how gifted he is, but as a Qb...lets face it. He can't throw! Too many people think the world of him.

Vick, in my opinion, is just a better version of Kordell Stewart. Stewart could do some things with his feet that would just "aww" the opponent. They both add another dimension to an offense that defenses have to game plan for. However, they just provide enough excitement and show enough potential to keep fans hopefully. But in the end they will never take a team to the promise land (championship).

I kind of like watching preseason games for the fact that I see names of players from college a few years ago that tore up college ball but now are just fighting for a spot on an NFL roster. Chris Doering of Florida about 10 years ago comes to mind. He was awesome in college but couldn't produce at the next level. He was a product of the system. Being a 49er fan, its hurt to say this but I think Alex Smith may fall into the same category.

I must agree about Alex Smith. To me, he just came into the NFL with the best resume(the pretty boy type with good grades, wins/stats to back him up), but not the top level NFL talent he needed to have. He thrived in Urban Meyer's offense...but hasn't looked good at all in his short NFL career. I haven't been impressed by him and he may turn out to be a bust...time will tell, as we should know by the end of this season.

I am so excited football is back. This season, with all the great games on the new Sunday Night Football, this season will be more exciting than ever. Plus, with the Huskers returning to glory, from Thursday night all the way through Monday, I will have football to watch, whether it's college, high school(which I will be seeing Niles Paul in all his games!), or pro. This season will be awesome. I'm excited to watch the Atlanta game tonight, to see Super Mario prove he is a starter. Hopefully he can make some big plays. Thank God football is back!!

Here are some stats on tonight:

Dan Bullocks led Detriot in tackling tonight with 7 tackles. He also had a fumble recovery.

Trevor Johnson ended with 4 tackles, 1 being assisted. Also had caused a fumble.

Barrett Ruud had 2 tackles with 1 being assisted. He also had a fumble recovery.

Cory Ross had an ok night as he returned 2 kicks for a 22 yard average, with a long of 27. He had 2 punt returns for a 13.5 yard average, with a long of 17. Also 1 carry for 2 yards.

Sam Koch punted three times for the Ravens with a poor 33 yard average. One of them was inside the 20 though so that can bring down the average, but also 1 was returned for a TD, I believe, so that can't help him out any.

Demorrio Williams had 3 tackles for Atlanta.

Bummer for Koch. Hopefully next game he will show the kind of leg he has, and the rest of his special teams can make a tackle. Nice returns for Ross. Maybe Billick will give him some more in the next game. GBR Players in the NFL!!

Tonight New Orleans and Tennessee square off. It will be interesting to see how Young, Bush, and White all do in the same game. White has been in a fight recently at practice when he spit in a fellow players face. He hasn't seemed to have his head on straight ever since the National Title game, but I guess we'll see.

Alex Smith played well for my 49ers last night. Stayed in about a half I believe and had over one hundred yards passing. Its only preseason, but this kid needs all the confidence he can get.

White spit in a players face????!!!! I would kick his a$$ of the team!!!!! :steam
Yeah, he did - did it to a defensive back who "bumped" him after the scrimmage play was over, as I recall. White spit in his face, and the crap escaladed from there. Fisher initially jumped the defensive back, but when he learned how it started, he read White the riot act - essentially, saying that kind of crap won't be tolerated and that if he can't take a bump in practice, how the hell could he be counted on to walk away during a game - that kind of thing.

Needless to say, Fisher has him on a short leash...

I would agree that he shouldn't have too long of leash in the NFL, however being a second round draft choice, he will probally stick around for awhile due to money and politics.
