Pressure FG kicking.

Have we seen a pressure FG situation yet this year? Get the feeling this is going to be coming up in the next few weeks. Been blessed with Maher and Henery the last few years. Thoughts?

He still kicked 74%, which is about average for a FG kicker. I wouldn't say his year was forgettable, we've just been spoiled.

Speaking of field goals, WTH were we doing in the Purdue game when we went for 4th and short down by the goal? We NEED the field goal practice. I think I'd be looking to kick a couple of field goals during game conditions instead of punching it in for another TD. That would be more useful than rolling over at the end to give Turdue a cheap TD and make them feel better.

What 4th down are you talking about? I only see the one 4th down that NU went for it, and that was at the end of the first quarter, when the game was only 7-0. Going for the TD was absolutely the right call in that situation. The game was early, and still in doubt. Inside the 1 yard line, it makes more sense to go for the TD, rather than kick the FG.

Heh. That was in the 1st qtr? I should've looked it up. Thought it was later. Going for it then was the right call. We do need more FG kicking practice though.

I am nervous about a game coming down to the wire with a FG needing to decide the game, but it's tough to get "FG practice" in a game. You typically want to convert 3rd downs and keep the drive going, and score TD's.

Yeah, we definitely need to practice FGs in these "easy" October games. We got spoiled with Alex Henery, and even with Maher two years ago. (Maher last year, not so much.) Come November we're gonna need that money kicker late in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line.
