We need to hope that Alabama beats Auburn, and Arkansas beats LSU... many believe that voters will choose a 1-loss team from a major conference over an undefeated TCU or Boise State team...
There is no way a 1 loss LSU can play for the title if they don't even go to their conference championship game. Auburn is already a lock for the SEC western spot since they own the tie breaker on LSU. If Auburn loses and LSU is a one loss team, they won't even play in the SEC championship.
How can LSU play for a title over BSU, TCU and the winner of the Big 12, if they don't even make the SEC championship. Inconceivable.
How is it inconceivable?
Not playing in your conference's championship game does not preclude you from being ranked the 2nd best team in the nation.
Your logic makes no sense.
A one-loss team from the best conference in the nation could definitely make the claim that they deserve to be in the BCS National Championship over an undefeated team playing a cupcake schedule.
Although, I will say that I don't believe LSU is deserving of being in the BCS Title Game. They should have had multiple losses early in the season but were aided by extraordinary luck (UNC having its stars be suspended/kicked off the team, Noel Devine playing hurt for West Virginia, Jeffy Demps being out for Florida, and the Tennessee coach not knowing how to count to 11).
The logic is this.
If you are not able/good enough to play for your conference championship you should not be able play for the title. There are 1 loss teams and undefeated teams that deserve a shot over a 1 loss LSU that is in 2nd place in the SEC west. Because they lost early and moved up the polls does not make it right. I one loss team like OU or NU that wins their conference championship should jump a one loss LSU.
If NU is sitting at no. 4 in the BCS and wins out, it makes no sense that a LSU team that didn't qualify for their own championship should go to the NC game. I think that Oregon, Auburn, TCU and BSU all deserve a shot over a one loss champion but a 1 loss LSU that didn't play for a championship should not get a nod over a one loss team from NU if we get down to that point. The human polls should never allow a LSU team that didn't play for the title in a conference that has a championship game.
If you have a Conference Championship Game, you should have to play in it and have to win that to advance. There is no written rule that states this but there should be polls that penalize LSU.
If you don't qualify to win the SEC/your own conference you shouldn't play for a title. Just like the loser of the SEC title game shouldn't play for the title. The SEC gets more props from the media that they are really good but really BAMA, LSU and Auburn aren't as good as the media says they are and they always seem to give them props because the SEC is usually a lot stronger than it is this year.
