Props to Martinez

Inb4 the Wrath of Hujan.
Very cute. Can't say I don't deserve most of that. To be fair, though, my problem is not with Martinez per se, but moreso with myopic Husker fans who think that ripping long runs against the likes of WKU, K State, and Washington means that he is and will always be the savior of Husker football. To put it mildly, I think that view overlooks a lot of his shortcomings as a quarterback, and I am not convinced he is worthy of the pedestal many of you have put him on.
I can't think of one single Husker fan who thought of Martinez as the savior of Husker football. I can think of a few of us who thought he was fairly impressive before his injury, especially for a freshman, and I can think of a few of us who thought he had perhaps the best freshman season of any Husker QB ever, since statistically he did.

But I can't think of one single Husker fan or message board poster who honestly thinks Martinez has locked up his spot in the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame. We "Martinez lovers" simply think he got off to a pretty good start, and we're waiting to see if he can live up to the potential he flashed during his freshman year.
If what you say is true, then count me in. I can't think of a single thing in your post that I disagree with, except to say that Martinez's conference season statistics leave a lot to be desired, but we'll give him credit for the bum wheel. In any event, definitely count me in for two scoops of waiting and seeing.
oh my god...

The war is over!!! The war is over!!! Peace in our time!!!

Good point though. Bo will still be Bo. I doubt we'll see a tirade like we saw against A&M ever again.
Tirade? maybe. A&M-like tirade? NO. 1) because he was scolded for it and I would like to think he's learned and 2) because that particular Big 12 crew won't be reffing any Nebraska games this year (fingers crossed that this includes a bowl game). I honestly think he went in to that game hot, with an even shorter fuze than usual (scary thought) knowing his team was also going up against that crew.

as much as I want to like Martinez, and i hate to say this, but i wouldn't be surprised if he pulled some kind of similar BS this year.

But jamal will be able to make those throws that Rex struggled with. See big 12 championship
What throws? I can only remember the one that was intended for Martinez. But no way Jamal makes that throw if the line can't block.
I think Lyons is just saying Jamal should be a better thrower than Rex, having been a QB prospect for us and with Rex being a RB who only played a little QB in HS. Rex can throw in the sense that Marlon Lucky can throw...

Lol. Quick, somebody find me a sailor outfit and a dame I can kiss.

There is no doubt that Martinez showed huge upside potential. His passing game against Okla St was just as amazing to me as his running ability. Its great that he is getting pre-season recognition.

If he is to continue to grow, I think he will have to develop a better relationship with the OL and obviously will have to become a reliable passer in Beck's offensive scheme. If he can't grow into that leadership role, then another QB will have to arise. As my boss once told me - "Someone out there can do this job well, I hope you're the man." <_<
