PSU - What Did We Learn?

I don't think they are very athletic. That's why we had a walk-on converted RB playing LB tonight - to try to get some better athleticism on the field.
Watson Trent isn’t athletic but to say Shavers and Wright aren’t athletic is crazy. The scheme isn’t helping anybody in the front 7…when they running down the field and Butler goes to a 3 man front with 2 backers it makes no sense. Everybody tries to act like football is so difficult, sometimes it’s real simple.

I don't know if CEO like coaches work in college football. Saban worked, but he was also in charge of everything along with knowing every play called on offense and having input. Rhule is a decent coach and human being. I don't know if he is fit for NIL era of college football. This is not football like it was. I think that we are about 5 players short on offense from being viable and would say we are about 5 or 6 players away on defense. That's half our roster on both sides of the ball. We have pieces and need more pieces. Find a really good set of offensive line players and a good set of Defensive line players and I think we are changed over night. Just think SUH. He was a one man wrecking ball. That one player like him or even just comparable, makes a huge difference. We also had some great corners. Like I said, just a few players make a huge difference. Everyone else also wants those players so we have to have something better to offer than just money. SEC programs have unlimited cash flow on hand.
To the bolded. Read today that Urban Meyer was not chosen at Penn St or moved further in interview as Kraft didn't like his answers ref NIL. Said in this day and age needed a coach who "has experience in NIL"......You bring up a solid point.

Shavers was an upper-mid three-star recruit. Wright was a mid-three-star who’s struggled to be healthy. They are solid players but petty average athletically.

Scott Frost's record sucks in 1 score games. We flipped the script this year. Actually, what did Scott do well? We have made bowl games twice. Scott was a disaster as the Husker coach. MR spent the first season getting us out of the hole SF left us in. PSU is an excellent team that lost against Oregon and couldn't recover.

I’m going to put myself down for the “we really don’t have any actual linebackers” camp.

With just one good inside LB we might have beaten Michigan.

I don’t understand the idea behind the scheme we trotted out tonight. I was worried about it all week.

They knew we sucked against the run, we knew we sucked against the run…but we didn’t sell out with a stacked box?

Wright was a cornerback recruit out of high school and has had bloodclot issues, that’s not impacting his athleticism. He’s more athletic than a RB trying to play LB. The issues aren’t how athletic they are.

I’m not sure we have any actual defensive tackles either. The personal in the front 7 on defense doesn’t align at all with what they are trying to do.

There’s no universe where - even with a healthy Dylan Raiola and a Dana Holgorsen that’s not tripping b***s on shrooms or something - we compete with a conference opponent that puts up 37 points.

So hand-wringing over anything that happened on offense is really pointless in this one.

We got down to their 2 on the first drive. We’ve struggled with short yardage running situations all year. Should have punched that one in.

But we were only good for about 17-20 points max in this one.

I learned that we probably shouldn't force feed our "Heisman candidate" to try to juice his stats and hand off 4 times right up the middle on the goal line. Game probably feels a lot different if we punch it in there and get them on their heels. Instead they had momentum from the jump and it was all downhill from there.

Scott Frost would have the same record at this point.

I don’t know man…I think you can make the inverse argument:

We had them on their 2. Our defense could have shut them down there gotten the ball back for our offense…but our defense sucks.

But totally agree - short yardage running has been a deceptively bad area for us that has hurt us all year.
