Indeed. Green did need to redshirt. If Spano passes him on the depth chart this year, I still believe he needs a redshirt. He was already a year behind before coming here because of an injury in high school.
I love the enthusiasm. You may be correct, but I didn't know that we knew anything about Washington, Martinez or Spano in real game situations. How are you making this prediction?I think Cody Green emerges to be the man. Sure he looked rattled last season. People seem to forget that he was a true freshman. A TRUE FRESHMAN. That’s what a true frosh looks like when he takes the reigns for the first time in the midst of the Big 12 schedule. The reigns of a struggling offense, no less. Cody is going to look like a seasoned vet this year. I’m betting that Taylor Martinez, Kody Spano and Latravis Washington don’t even come close to unseating Cody Green at #1. And we will forget what Zac Lee looked like last year. Actually, we will block it out of our memory.
newearth is exactly right. Not throwing in the towel - but that's different from expecting him to suddenly evolve into our best QB. The latter is the extreme approach, not the former. Really, apart from his 4 stars, why is anyone expecting him to be our future?I am surprise too by how many people are ready to basically throw in the towel on a true fresheman who is what?....17 or 18 years old? How many snaps did he take? Geez, cut the kid some slack.
Bolded part indicates the tremendous leap in logic.I think Cody Green emerges to be the man. Sure he looked rattled last season. People seem to forget that he was a true freshman. A TRUE FRESHMAN. I think the vast majority of it is based on his results in High School against some pretty fierce competition in Texas. He was a star in a very tough league. His highlight reels were pretty good. That's where most of this is coming from, I think.Really, apart from his 4 stars, why is anyone expecting (Cody Green) to be our future?

Combine that with Lee's lackluster performance and that natural tendency to favor the second-stringer becomes even more pronounced, I think.
Last season it seems like everybody evaluated Cody Green-—and downgraded him—-as if he had been in our system for two or three years. Aside from Tommie, when is the last time we had a true freshman QB who looked better?I love the enthusiasm. So where does Zac fit into your prediction? Non-factor or second string?
Cody Green did play against some tough competition in Texas. But Dayton HS is class 4A and the top class in Texas is 5A so Green and Dayton HS didn't play against the toughest competition in Texas. One of the differences between classes is team speed and the complexity of schemes on defense. Playing in 4A probably added to his highlight reel and might explain some of his early tendencies like locking onto a primary receiver that a 4A defense might not have been capable of taking away.I think the vast majority of it is based on his results in High School against some pretty fierce competition in Texas. I am. See above. And sure, it is a tremendous leap in logic. But it's the offseason. So it's all good.Really, apart from his 4 stars, why is anyone expecting him to be our future?
We do not run the Crouch, Frazier, Lord, option offense anymore. And will not be any time soon. Shawn Watson is going to run his offense, no matter what. The 2008 offense was awesome, with Ganz (A great passer who could get outside the pocket)We won a LOT of games with run 1st qbs Frost, Frazier, Crouch, Lord, etc. I also don't ever remember our run 1st offense looking anything as dismal as our "multiple" 09 offense. Do you?Cody Green needs a chance to be Cody Green. Relatively speaking, I think he is the most talented QB on the roster. He did fine against Baylor in the first half, but then the coaches clammed up with the play calling in the second half and he didn't have much of a shot to show us anything. And against OU...come on, it was OU. One of the best defenses in the country..in his second start as a true freshman. You can't knock him for that. And it's not like Zac came in and saveds the day against OU. The Holiday Bowl argument for Zac Lee is completely invalid to me, Zac went 13/23 (less than 60%) for 173 yards, 74 of which were on one play where the corner covering Niles bit hard on the playfake. And two of Zac's passes in that game were easy picks that Zona DBs simply dropped. Of course Zac deserves a big break due to the torn flexor tendon, but how many players have we seen fall off after injuries.
As for Martinez...his arm is still suspect. If he had a decent arm he would have been recruited as a QB, not a safety. And eventually the coaches will realize we need a good passer who can run second, rather than a run first guy. Maybe that's Spano..but you have to present the surgery argument for him too. We have 2 very good receivers in Paul and Kinnie, we need someone who can get them the ball, not a guy for them to block for.

I'm not a lee fan but if he is the best we will have a hard time winning 10 gamesInjury shminjury! ZL is not enough. If someone doesn't rise above him, we are in deep do-do. He has zero running ability. He is average as a thrower. The injury is overrated. He could still throw a spiral 50 yards without falling to the ground in agony. Just because you need post season surgery doesn't mean you were hampered to a serious degree. He threw behind guys before he was hurt. It never looked like he had any arm strength. Will a real Nebraska quarterback please stand up. :koolaid2: :koolaid2:

How are you not a fan of every kid on the roster? Lee, Green, Spano I could care less who wins the battle and I will be happy ot jump on the bandwagon of the starter.I'm not a lee fan but if he is the best we will have a hard time winning 10 gamesInjury shminjury! What if LaTravis Washington starts every game and we go undefeated? I know you'd be happy about that.I know one thing, and that thing is that I want Cody to be the starter this year.
