This is the fact people mention when bringing up Martinez's stats. Yeah, they are great, but against a majority of below average teams.Martinez has an extremely poor record against top-tier defenses. Look at how he played against Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game. Look at tonight's performance. Before NU can beat top-tier teams, Taylor Martinez will need to become a better decision maker and passer. I doubt it'll ever happen.
In addition, I think Taylor Martinez is a relatively poor leader on this field.
I say put in Carnes. While Carnes might not be as ready and able as Taylor, I think he has a lot more potential. We should prepare for the future. Right now, we have an incredibly talented, young receiving corps. Bell, Turner, and Enunwa are championship-caliber assets, and we should get a QB who can utilize them, while not throwing INT's. By doing this, we won't have as strong of a running attack, but I think we gain more than we lose.
Martinez has improved considerably over last year. But the bad decisions. Still a problem. He just doesn't have the arm strength to throw near coverage. And he misses a lot of wide open receivers. His second and third targets just stand there waving, wide open.Martinez has an extremely poor record against top-tier defenses.
