Castille running mean, feeling goodHusker sophomore running back Quentin Castille is coming off probably the best game of his season, running for 70 yards on 11 carries and catching one pass for five yards. He also had a touchdown, but his highlight might have been a fourth-quarter run when he buckled an Iowa State safety that tried to stop him.

Marlon Lucky said they hit the rewind button on that play about four or five times when going through the game.

It was a far cry from the Castille in the Texas Tech game, where he was used sparingly, and in his biggest moment, didn't pick up a fourth and one.

"I reacted to it like, I was kind of mad at first that I didn't pick it up, because I thought that I did," Castille said. "When I came off the sideline, (Bo Pelini) yelled at me. It just showed that he had confidence in me. He knew that I should have got it.

"When I got to the sideline, I knew he was going to rip me. That's just part of coaching."

What'd Pelini say?

"Basically he said, I should have picked it up.(The picture) looked bad in the newspaper and stuff like that. But he basically was just yelling, saying, 'I should have picked it up.' And I was like, 'Yeah, I should have.'

"I feel that Coach Pelini has more confidence in me than anybody else that I know," Castille said. "I feel like he keeps my confidence up a lot. When he actually told me that I was an everydown back, I always thought that I was, but I just never had the opportunity to show that."

After that Texas Tech game, Castille said he talked to Shawn Watson a bit about his role.

"I just talked to him about where I fit in as a player in the offense," Castille said. "He just told me that I fit in as well anybody else does. I'm more of a physical guy and I can catch the ball and things like that. He told me to out there and just play. And so did Coach Pelini, just go out there and play. Just let everything hang loose. I'm a good player and not to hold myself back or anything.

"I brought it up because I was thinking, 'Man, I'm tired of being that team that loses all the team.' So I went in there and was just like, 'I want to know where I fit in in the offense. And anyway I can help, basically just let me know.'"

it sounds like he wants to play, has the ability to play, but their not letting him. he's being left out. this makes me wish the huskers had a back that stands out over the rest, so they don't have to split time. it's managing egos of good players, and not great ones. it's a weird situation.

Number 1 rule for any RB -- protect the ball. Until Castille learns how to not put it on the turf, he is going to see more and more limited carries. He will see even less when Helu finally gets his deserved carries.

Quentin Castille looks a lot stronger against weaker defenses.

Someone is going to have to step up and make a claim for Featured Running Back '09.

I'd like to see a freshman get some reps right now. Because come the end of their senior years, I don't think either Castille or Helu will be starting.

Obviously, I have alot of respect for Q since he is my signature. However he needs to learn how to hang on to the damn ball. He's fumbled the ball so many times these last two season that as a coach how could you trust him to take the larger percentage of carries? He runs hard as hell and I like his style of running though.

:yeah

I'd love to see Q get more touches to develop himself but evidently he hasn't beaten out Lucky and Helu in practice or he'd be THE GUY. :yeah

Article in todays Omaha.com about Castille's last 2 game differences.

7:50 a.m.: Quentin Castille finished the game against Texas Tech with three carries for six yards. He did have an early touchdown run, but that was marred a bit by his inability to pick up one yard on a fourth down toward the end of the second quarter.

It wasn't a good game for the sophomore I-back, who was frustrated with his on-the-field performances and the team's three-game losing streak.

So he met with offensive coordinator Shawn Watson last week, just to make sure he wasn't going to be totally dropped from the rotation because of the way things were going.

"I'm tired of being that team that loses," Castille said. "I went in and I was like, 'I want to know where I fit in as a player in the offense. Anyway I can help, basically, just let me know.'"

He received only reassuring words from Watson.

Castille said that Watson told him just to play and not worry about the little things as much. He fits into the offense just as well as the other I-backs, Watson said.

Castille followed the advice and saw some pretty favorable results against Iowa State Saturday. He played as often as fellow I-backs Marlon Lucky and Roy Helu. He lined up in the backfield and as a slot receiver.

He finished with 11 carries for a total of 70 yards. He scored on a 19-yard touchdown late in the fourth and he even caught a short pass and gained five yards.

"We want to play him more because he gives us some thump in our offense," Watson said Sunday.
