Did not hear the announcers when they were talking about it, but why is it that Missouri got the ball to start the game and got it to start the half as well??

Not sure how it works exactly, but the same thing happened with us and USC in I believe '07. We got the ball to start both halves. I guess we win the toss and chose a direction to go in, rather than whether or not to get the ball, letting Missouri choose that in the first half. And then they get first choice in the 2nd half, and chose to get the ball again. That or the other way around (i.e, the order of that reversed).

U have to hear from Bo but I think he gave up both kickoffs. The thinking is a 3 and out gets you the ball back. That would be insane if that is what he did. I hope someone asks him about that. You always take the ball. Take time off the clock.

It happened to our high school team once in this instance. I think what happened was, and this is a possible issue when you rotate captains as we do- but when you win the toss you can defer choice to second half, kick, receive, or defend a goal. What happened to us was there was a miscomm, between coach/captain and captain/official between defer and defend a goal. if the opening toss today was ruled a defend a goal instead of defer, then Missour got the choice for the second half. Otherwise ???

I said in the other topic, but I think he was wanting to give Taylor more time to see if he could play. I'm guessing they made the decision to kick away before they knew he was out of the game for sure. Just my guess...

Yep. You won the opening toss and chose to kick. MU then got the choice for the 2nd half. Would've been a HUGE mistake had we been able to take advantage. Obviously, we did not.

Pelini just said in post-game news conference that the captains screwed up. We won the toss and were supposed to defer (so we'd get the ball to start the second half) and the captain(s) said, "We want to kick."

Just heard Prince on the locker room show. He said that he thought it was like in Madden, where if you kickoff you automatically get the ball back in the 2nd half. :laughpound

What a way to make a mistake. Oh well, at least it didn't come back to hurt us.
