Quick Thoughts: An Outsider's perspective

Wow, guys. I did not expect that. I wonder if Wyoming was just better than we all expected, NU didn't prepare well enough, if the coach's had a bad defensive gameplan, or a combination. Some quick thoughts from an outsider:

The Good:

The Offense. I contiinue to be impressed with the execution of the offense. The line performed admirably, Martinez was accurate, and both Abdullah and Cross performed very well. That 2 headed monster at RB is going to make y'all very difficult to defend, not to mention Martinez's ability to run and scramble himself. Special teams coverage was also found. Finally, when it comes to D, you made the stops when you needed to. Wyoming has the momentum, and you stopped them cold. Also, did you notice the "standard" run D? When Wyoming gave the ball to a tailback, he tended to be stopped pretty quickly. That is something that should be noted.

The Bad:

The D. Oh lord, the D. Bo Pelini mentioned that the seondary was a strength, but they are not there yet. Busted coverage and inability to cover caused a huge issue. Add to that the mobility of the QB, and it causes a conundrum. It's the typical man vs zone. You can press cover better with man, but the back is turned to the QB, so if he takes off, you're in trouble. Zone is better to defend against that, but it's harder to cover. My biggest ponderance: Is the D's issue with talent or with coaching?

The takeaways and questions:

1. How is Taylor's shoulder?

2. What adjustments will the D make? We know Week 1-Week 2 tends to be a HUGE shift. (And let's remember Texas State just beat Southern Miss, that shouln't be too tough)

3. How do we contain a mobile QB? IT's going to be necessary against Meatchicken and Urban and his merry band

4. Will Bo Pelini rip the heart out of any defensive coaches and eat it in front of him?

GBR

1. state held secret. no one will ever know

2. no defensiove adjustments will be made. Bo blames the players for not executing

3. Bo's defense doesn't account for a mobile QB

4. not until the coach puts on some ref stripes

Great pic of cute little Husker. You ask good questions. Seems the same ones that have been coming up the last few years. I don't have a clue. lol GBR!!!

I think she looks better in maroon, but for some reason my wife thinks she looks better in red

Very good points, Ag. Naturally, we're all focusing on the negative right now because of the defense. In terms of good, I think the offense played pretty well.

Defensively, they just didn't do their jobs. Gave up 74 plays, yard after yard and forced one three and out. At this point, there's no way to deny talent is an issue. When you start so many freshman or guys who haven't seen a lot of playing time, miscues are inevitable. But, those were bad miscues, over and over, in tandem with an overall lack of QB pressure and run stopping ability goes right back to the coaches for me.
