RB situation

Heres how I see it: Culbert was a safety last year and was a pretty good one, for a freshman. Once a lot of our backs went down he got moved to running back which was supposed to be temporary. Then Jackson decided to go pro and wilson got hurt which left us with four scholorship running backs on the roster including Culbert. The coaches are just waiting to see if one of the freshmen can step up and become a valuable back up to Lucky and Glenn. We all know that you can just give the ball to Castille and let him run and he'll pick up some good yards. With the early talk from the coaches about Helu it sounds as if we are going to be ok at running back enabling Culbert to move back to Safety. As far as Prince playing running back, what would you rather have Helu move to safety or linebacker and have Prince move to running back or have Prince move to corner where he obviously doing very well and have Helu play running back where he is obviously doing well at also. Next year we will have Murillo, Blue, Sullivan, West and Prince at corner. I feel a hell of a lot better with Prince at the corner position than I would if he was not there. He just brings a whole new sort of athletisicm from a freshman corner since probably Fabian Washington. I dont see anything wrong with Asante Thenarse Murillo and Prince as the four starting DB's next year. Thenarse will still get a ton of playing time this year if he isnt starting opposite Asante. If Asante and Thenarse are as good as hyped Culbert can still have two years to start.

I think what this thread proposes makes a lot of sense. The way I see it, Culbert is a safety. If he had experience as RB - well, so did Prince! What's the difference? Culbert is a veteran, but he's a veteran safety - move him back to where he belongs!

The reason Culbert was moved to RB, and not Prince, is the fact that Culbert was already here to take the reps. Prince just got into camp and so is already behind the curve compared to Culbert. But again, I feel that if one of the other running backs passes Culbert on the depth chart he will be back at Safety. Just my impression from the articles and snippets I've read.

maybe culbert doesn't have the TRUE footwork to play DB? Prince even said the coaches told him CB the most athletic position on the field...and it is!!

the RB coach said he likes culbert's 'junk in the trunk'....how many corners do you know that are shaped 'squat-like' NONE!! if he was going to contribute the most and best @ DB then the coaches would have him there.
But Culbert played safety, not corner.

What I am saying will have Murrilo, Asante, Culbert, and Thenarse playing DB next year.

Move Helu to LB a position we are also sorely lacking for next year anyway.

Castile, Mendoza, and Prince play RB with specific specific "sets" for each to cover the injury bug, with one ultimately redshirting. I just think that Prince is too gifted with the ball in his hands not to give it to him.

I have seen Okafor play.........Dont hold your breath......he'll end up at FB, and Gray will end up in this class with the redshirt RB out of Castile, Mendoza, or Prince.

I see Culbert moving back to Defense just as Castile proves that he is the horse that he is. I like Prince in the DB slot since we are not stacked in that positioin, as long as he returns punts and kick offs I'll be happy.

I see what youre saying bc those are more than likely our best four players in the DB position. However why would you move Helu to LB? He is going to be just as inexperienced as the two frosh we have this year. This is the position they brought him in to play with the idea of if that doesnt work we can move him to DB or LB. Well right now, from what I have read and heard, they really like the way he looks at RB so there is no need to move him. I mean I am sure the Michigan team would have loved to have Woodsen as a full time receiver, or Taylor Mays as a full time receiver or maybe some teams would love to have Terrel Pryor as a QB and some would love to have him as a receiver. Right now our biggest need is at corner. He can potentially come in and become our dime back with Murillo, Grixby, Bowman and Jones. I like the future of the DB's a lot more with Prince in there as a starter with Murillo and possibly Bushell in the future then I do West, Blue or Sullivan.

Prince wants to be a WR not a RB. The only people saying he should be a RB are the fans which I think is funny. We all know more then the coaches and the players. <_< This is from the OWH article in Thursday paper.

He said in a perfect world, he'd play receiver, although he conceded he understands why he was recruited to the school as a defensive back.

I certainly dont claim to know more than the coaches, I just like him as an offensive player, WR would be fine with me! I didnt play corner in college, so I dont know how easy it will be to learn a position he didnt even play in HS.

The idea behind moving Helu is for next year when four seniors will be gone. This will allow him a year to learn the position before that happens so we can have a bit more experience coming back.

I agree the biggest need is at corner, I suggested Thenarse instead of Amukamara. Thenarse played that position last year, and HE could be our dime or even nickle back this year and start next year.
