Re-thinking the OSU Loss

Ok, so we've lost three games. It seems to be the opinion of most of the "experts" that the USC game was lost before the kickoff - too conservative. We were pretty much the last team to play USC with their all-world WR and he was a big part of their win. So, even though they have struggled since NU, it is hard to tell how good they truly are. Is Jarrett (sp?) back yet? I'really haven't been paying attention.

Then we lose to Texas at home. It seemed to be the opinion of most of the "experts" that the Texas game showed just how close NU was to being back in the National Spotlight. Not there yet, but definitely getting there. Texas missed a couple of FGs, which would have put the game a little further out, but whose to say we wouldn't have overcome that as well.

Then we lose to OSU. It seems now the "experts" think we pretty much suck, and won't even win the Big 12 North. Even if we do, I'm sure they say we will get annihilated on a neutral field by Texas.

So what is the deal? How good or bad are we? Was the OSU game an aberation? Did we just have a "Texas sized hangover"? I'm not sure. We sure do not have any "big" wins to say that we are better. However, if we are that bad, did Texas play poorly against us? Or did we just over-achieve for one game?

Only time will give us the answer to this question. Three wins, with at least one of them beign utter domination, and you'd have to say OSU was just a "bad day". One win, and you'd have to say that there has been little improvement of this team over last year. Two wins at home, and a loss to A&M on the road would make me think that BC really has to re-think how he motivates this team on the road.

Only time will tell I guess.

When you're good, you're never actually as good as you think you are. And when you're bad, you're not actually as bad as you think you are.

only time will tell when NU is truely back in the National spotlight. by the 5th year we should know where NU is at. the reason I say 5 years is because it takes that long to get rid of the previous coaching staffs recruits and you have all of the players that the current staff has recruited. If NU is not back to the point that they are not having mental breakdowns against teams that they should not (KU/OSU ECT) then it is time to start looking at the coaching staff.

I feel that NU is still heading in the right direction, and that any problems that the Huskers are having on defense is the lack of depth at the backer and cb positions. Injuries in those areas and just the lack of talented depth is the cause. IMO

Play calling on offense remains questionable. To me sometimes who ever is calling the plays looks like they are the smartest person on the planet, sometimes i just sit there and say WTH.

Was Norvell an O-Coord in the pros, i dont think that he was. wo he might still be trying to figure it out. and getting used to the college game again could be problems also.

So lets just see how NU does against Mizzu first before we start worring about aTm, sCUm, Big 12 championship game, bowl game.

As I recall, he never was an offensive coordinator in the pros.

Jay Norvell was never an offensive coordinator anywhere. Prior to NU he was the Oakland Raiders TE coach for 2 yrs. Before that he was the Indianapolis Colt's WR coach for 4 years and before that he was a$$'t Head coach at Iowa State.
