"Really bad news" on the injury front

Big loss losing Fisher. LB was a position I had concerns about it and it appeared Fisher was the best LB we had.

He was? I was more impressed with Compton last year, but that not saying much.

One member posts that he "heard" that Fish broke his leg today.

Lot of hear say. I want facts.
USC confirmed through their sources that Fisher was carted off the field with a broken leg. Matt Schick tweeted that one of the photographers who work for the TV station he is affiliated with was at practice and confirmed the same thing.
Yeah, Schick, Sipple and Kugler all tweeting that Fischer was carted off the field.

About someone playing much earlier than expected, well they probably weren't expecting for either Whaley or David to just step in at the beginning of the season. The coaches were probably leaning on Fisher, Compton, and Martin to hold the line while Whaley and David developed to bring some depth.

this loss hurts, yes. but honestly, i don't know if it is a huge loss. he didn't set the world on fire last year... yes he is one of few with experience, yes he had great potential, yes you hate to see this happen, but i don't think it comes close to changing any expectations for the season

any news on the severity of the break?
Out for the year is all I've heard.

Remember that in 2008 our linebacking corps included walk-ons such as Tyler Wortman and Matt Holt so that our true freshmen's redshirts could be preserved. I am confident that Pelini will adjust personnel or scheme to make sure that we field an effective defense. To me, Whaley looked really good in spring. David has been called an athletic freak. We still have Compton and Martin and there are walk-ons that should provide depth such as Matt May.

It sucks that we lost Fisher. I feel for the young man and wish him a speedy recovery. We are definitely better with him than without him. That being said, injuries are a part of the game and good coaches will overcome such set backs. We have good defensive coaches, and I am confident that while we may be slightly worse for the Fisher injury, the blackshirts will still be an imposing and effective unit.
